ISU's annual Play4Kay game is Sunday, Februrary 5th. If you would like to donate you can donate through my fundraising page https://support.kayyow.com/CindyGate.
Last year ISU was the top team in the country in raising funds for this great cause. It would be great to see ISU above all othe Division I schools again this year.

All cancer survivors or those battling cancer can also sign up for the cancer survivor event at https://goredbirds.com/sb_output.aspx?form=15&path=wbball.
Tickets for the game are $1 and there are usually some specials at the concession stands.

Appreciate everyone that supports this event.

Go Birds!

Interesting, Play for Kay alone raised $46,733.00 while the current total raised for all of Redbird Athletics in the Birds Give Back campaign sits at 305 gifts for $46,596.00.

Is Women's Basketball hot right now?
I don't think you can really compare the two or even say that Play for Kay is about women's basketball. It has to do with women's basketball because of Coach Yow and that when we started having pink games it was about breast cancer, which most people associate with women. It has become so much bigger than that. ISU has done an amazing job with the Play for Kay game.
Birds Give Back is a different animal all together. With it being a university wide thing I think that some people are probably choosing other things than athletics because it is the one day a year some of those departments are asking for donations in that way. Athletics just had their support your sport fundraiser plus people are donating for tickets and other things throughout the year. As a whole, Birds Give Back did great again this year. As someone that works in the academic side of the university, I think it is great to see all the different areas get much needed money for their programs.
So to sum it up, yes our Women's basketball team is hot right now but I don't think that is why Play for Kay is successful at ISU. I think it has to do with people like Leanna Bordner and Danny Bugg making it successful.

I get that Play for Kay is about cancer awareness and fighting cancers affecting women, but with the fundraiser taking place at a Women's Basketball game and knowing that the tweet I quoted came from the Illinois State University Women's Basketball twitter account, it is also about Women's Basketball. It's not just Kay. It's "Play4Kay", and to do that you need a Women's Basketball game.

And yes, it is different than Birds Give Back. You can only really compare things that are different. You won't get too far comparing things that are identical. Still, I thought it was an interesting comparison. Not everyone agrees.

What's getting lost in this is that I was attempting to compliment both Play for Kay and Illinois State Women's Basketball. It's obvious that good work is being done in both of those areas and the success of each is a benefit to both.

I get where you are coming from. I was probably feeling defensive because of other people that seem to want to bash Athletics for "not bringing enough $ in" during Birds Give Back. You know me, always trying to find the positive. :)
ISU does an amazing job with Play4Kay. Something we should be very proud of.
