Doesnt look like a HC resume at FCS level ... TE position coach and recruiting coordinator.

Yep, that would be an interesting hire for YSU if it happens. The YSU fan base has not been very happy the past couple of years and I don't see a hire like this at HC giving them a warm fuzzy feelings. You would think they would want someone that has been at least an offensive or defensive coordinator. Just rumors for now...my guess is this hire does not happen.

Yep ... He might help them shore up their recruiting, which has been one of the bigger complaints from YSU fans. But its one thing to be a good position coach, but quite another to be a coordinator, let alone a head coach.

So he played 2 years at YSU. Thing is it was basketball! Then transferred to Toledo where he played TE as a senior. Different path.

so according to posters in AGS, the YSU HC job is down to ISUb HC Mallory and former YSU asst coach Shane Montgomery, currently the OC/QB coach for JMU. My hunch is it will be Montgomery .. he grew up in Ohio and spent 8 years as OC at YSU not too long ago. And I just don't see why Mallory would leave ISUb HC job for the YSU HC job. We shall see soon enough .. next signing day is later this week.

The YSU job is a much better job than the trees.

It's probably a pay cut though, much like when Steck went to MoST from Mizzou. I believe almost every coach, if not every coach, at Alabama makes more than Spack. The main reason Pelini was there was because no matter what job he had he wasn't going to make any more than what Nebraska was paying him as a buyout. I'm surprised he didn't pull a Jim Les and just say, "Pay me $100,000 per year now and more later." Or just give more to his assistants at the time to attract/retain better talent.

This is exactly what is apparently happening in Springfield w Petrino. He is reported to be donating $70K to the pool for asst coaches. Their president said that MSU will be 2nd in the MVFC in asst coaches pay next year, from 7th in the league last year.

Agree it is a better job, I just don't see it as that much better any more and in decline.

So I assume if Mallory has more success with ISUb, he might find a better offer in not so distant future.

Hmmmm, not sure this resume is any better than the Kentucky TE coach, but it is what it is.

https://footballscoop.com/news/sources-doug-phillips-to-be-new-youngstown-state-head-coach/
Sources tell FootballScoop YSU plans to make University of Cincinnati running backs coach Doug Phillips their new head coach.

Phillips returned to an on-field coaching role with the Bearcats after spending the 2016 season at Iowa State as the director of player personnel.

He was a high school administrator from 2008-15, serving as a principal and superintendent, most recently as the superintendent at West Branch Local Schools in Beloit, Ohio. Phillips was also an assistant principal and principal for the Dickson County school district in Dickson, Tenn., and principal at Dalton Local Schools (outside of Canton, Ohio) from 2009-12.

And the list of guys under consideration here isn't all that impressive to me either. What am I missing?

Among the candidates that have spoken with representatives from Youngstown and are believed to still be viable candidates, sources say, are James Madison offensive coordinator Shane Montgomery, Michigan State wide receivers coach Don Treadwell, Cincinnati running backs coach/special teams coordinator Doug Phillips, Michigan defensive backs coach Mike Zordich, Archbishop Hoban High School head coach Tim Tyrrell and former NY Giants and Tampa Bay Bucs offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan.

Couldn't resist posting this just for those of us who think Pelini is a turd:

Asked about his confidence in the Bo Pelini hire, Ed Orgeron shares some things need to change

In three games, it was the second disappointing outing for Pelini’s defense. After the game, Ed Orgeron was asked about the defensive struggles and how confident he feels after three games in the hire of Pelini, coach O shared that there are things that definitely need to change.
“It’s embarrassing. It was all on the defense.”

“I love Bo. I think Bo’s going to be a great defensive coordinator. He’s done it before. But we have to get better. There are some things we need to look at schematically to get better.”
