Shelby got the start and looked to play most 1st and 2nd downs. Don't know what Rex Ryan was smoking acting like Shelby was a bum from the bench seeing his first action of the night? He blocked the 2nd kick attempt after the Denver timeout wiped out the first make for the Chargers.

Can someone say Appalachian State flashback!! Way to go Shelby!

nice recall on App St ... good for Shelby Harris. Unfairly maligned during his time ISU. He was no choir boy, he was just a somewhat normal student-athlete that did dumb college kid stuff.

Side bar on Normal Police and their Nazi state .. I hear they now spend considerable time enforcing jay walking laws during the school day and now get this ... they are also now targeting "designated drivers" who typically get paid $1 per ride to pick up kids from bars and parties .. they are targeting them for not being a "licensed cab service". Something has to be done about this .. jay walkers and designated drivers ???

He busted thru middle of that line completely and times his reach perfectly. And oh Appy St block brought back memories in a bar .. playoff game on road in overtime .. huge play in Redbird history.. Got us to elite 8.

I'll say it again ... the 2011 team that was snubbed from playoff was better than the 2012 team that got to round of 8.

I don't think I've seen this mentioned here, but former Redbird and NFL running back Aveion Cason is the head coach at Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas. This community is on the south side of the DFW region that we like to recruit. His OC is Deion Sanders.

For newer fans, Cason wasn't real big, but he was fast. He wasn't always the lead running back, but he also was a great kick returner on the first Redbird playoff teams.

Thanks for sharing.

Aveion was sooooooo fast. He was a lightning bolt with the ball. I recall in '99 we were at SWOMO (before they became Missouri State) and he took a swing pass from Burk and exploded through a small crease and raced about 50 yds untouched for a TD. I was literally laughing in my dorm room watching it on WMBD.

He might have been a few years ahead of his time. I think he would have been a real force in today's NFL. No linebacker could cover him.

James O had a catch for 12 yards today, as Jax destroyed Balt in London.

For no particular reason, was just looking at the schedule and roster for Grand Valley State, DII school in Michigan. What do you know, Jon-Marc Anderson and Nick Fish, former Birds, are starting for GVSU. and Reggie Spearman is on the roster and has some defensive stats and played in all the games so far. Good for them.

Have to believe our coaches have contacts down the pipeline as well as up. We take in guys who wash out of P5 schools based on relationships between coaching staffs to start the process; nice to see that D-II coaches are ready and waiting to take in guys who didn't work out as Redbirds. Good to see that kids aren't just cast adrift when they choose to leave our program or are shown the door.

I happened to see the other day that Nate Iloilo is at Missouri Southern State and is also doing quite well for them.

jon-marc was dismissed after he got busted for retail theft (under $300),

reggie spearman was Iowa transfer (dismissed for DWI), who got dismissed from ISU for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. He could have been a very good LB for us and Spack decided he was not a fit less than a month into game season.

I think nick fish left for his own reasons.

I am all for these kids getting 2nd chances, 3rd chance for Spearman Just hope they learn from mistakes.

Missouri WESTERN, actually.

Missouri Southern is where 'Ol Red Boots, Denver Johnson is coaching. And times are pretty tough for him again this year. 0-4 this year. They were 2-9 last year, and lost 5 of their last six.

Good catch. Sorry about that. Get the two mixed up. Anyone know why he left? I don't remember seeing anything. Seemed like he was pretty consistently in the D-Line rotation and was contributing. Wanting to be closer to home thing?

A nice piece I found, don't know if anyone has posted but pretty impressive list of former ISU Redbirds in NFL. shows how the program has done relative to other FCS programs in Illinois. Id be curious how ISU compares to the In-State FBS programs?

nice find .. note this is dated Sept 6 and indicated 3 of 6 FCS players are ISU. But Bj Bello is now on Browns acrive roster and imagine if Cam Meredith had not gotten injured .. they would be talking about 8 FCS players on rosters, with 5 being from ISU.

But where's Zack Zenner and David Johnson ??

And di author mean to say FCS MVFC players only ?
