Next year, the North Dakota State football team will play in the Twin Cities for the first time in eight years.

Only it won’t be against the Gophers.

The defending national champion Bison will play Butler to open the season on Aug. 31 at Target Field, the Twins confirmed Monday.

In 2017, I attended the game between DIII St. John's and St. Thomas at Target (the Twins field, not the Vikes) and there were 37K in attendance and it was a pretty nice set up (beer with your game, etc). I would think NDSU probably could have got a "better" opponent for this, but would not be surprised to see them fill it up.

Last time bunch of people left Fargo to go do something in Twin Cities, people died .. and one of them wound up in a wound chipper.

The way NDSU is able to reload year after year is beyond impressive and remarkable. They have a lot of seniors this year but likely will be the number 1 preseason team next year out of program respect. They may have the ugliest/gaudiest uniforms in football but there is absolutely no uniform that is more respected.

A couple of years ago a ran into an admin at NDSU. We started talking about the FCS / FBS thing. I asked him if NDSU was working on a move to FBS. He said no, and it has not even been discussed for a few years. Then he asked me why would they? He followed up by saying, "I suppose if the Big Ten or Big Twelve came calling, that would be interesting, but past that, why?"

I had nothing. I get it.
