Yeah, what's the difference? Brennan's list, the search firm's list, the Pantagraph list, Redbirdfan.net list, they all had some of the same names, a few unique to each, but it sounds like there was a good range of people "vetted" in one way or the other. If in fact a DII coach was included in the search, as well as a "long time" assistant at a Big 10 school, sounds like they covered it pretty well. For God's sake people, get over it, enjoy it, give it a chance, embrace it. Mr. Pedon, come on down, your table is ready!!!

I've got to say, after researching Ben McCollum I was excited by his coaching philosophy. Pedon, while he has an impressive assistant coaching resume, feels like more of a "safe" choice. He sounds like every other coach (not that that's necessarily a bad thing), while McCollum sounded revolutionary philosophically.

Regardless, I am excited for the next chapter but feel we may have missed an opportunity here. I will be definitely be watching McCollum when he does get a D1 gig. But, at the end of the day - go Birds, go coach Pedron!

ISU is one of the better schools, centrally located and if it gets much better at men’s basketball the media should recognize that. Murray State and Belmont are very very good long term basketball schools. Belmont women’s BB team very good also. UIC added for the Chicago market, which is ok. Not much besides pros gets mentioned in Chicago media unless a nun cheers you to the final four, then you have a great story. Nashville is a great place to hang out especially Broadway street. ISU in the 80s got lots of publicity and that was with a former Big10 assistant coach from the east of ISU. This hire could be the same. ISU plays it right it will be the number 2 school in the state basketball wise. Hard to compete with a school in a very large conference less than 50 miles away but in the 1980s ISU did. No reason we cannot have games in redbird like we used to in Horton. Loud and proud from start to finish.
If successful ISU will get plenty of recognition we just have to start getting consistently to the NIT and NCAA and with 12 schools in the valley and the two quality teams valley added I believe it has a much better chance to be a consistent 2 or more bid league.
Long way to go but it could be a short time to get there. My guess within two to three years we will know if this coach can get it done. If not hopefully they cut ties early and next person up.
Yeah, those riots that ended up on national news were something!

Maybe it will change if he quickly builds a winner, but my guess is that the first culture shock for Coach Pedon..........coming from a Big Ten environment in which sold out games are packed to the rafters...........will be when he takes the court and sees 4,000 fans in a 10,200 seat arena.

I think I wasn’t alone during the Jank era, thinking how cupcake-y our schedule felt. But now I’m appreciating the fact that we were winning and at the tail-end, attracting some high level talent. (Ice cold Nic).
I am calling it now; that we may again see some of that soft scheduling…to be truthful, I’m not all that opposed to it.

Oh no, I feel bad for you.
A) for thinking that anything at all MVC related would be all over national news
And
B) for thinking any of those teams other than Belmont are officially in for 2022
He’s right. Murray St joining was the first headline on CBS Sports’ CBB page and second headline on ESPN’s CBB page. It was also on the ESPN BottomLine the Friday it was leaked — I remember sitting at a restaurant and seeing it come across the ticker.

Also, all 3 of those teams are joining for 2022. This happened awhile ago.

A search firm is used almost every single time

Yep I stand corrected. Have to wear this one 🤷🏻‍♂️ that was bad. Knew Belmont was confirmed, thought uic, kc, murray state, utsa were still giving presentations, and thought kc and uic were favorites. Oh well, glad those 3 are in for next year

Agreed. A 6-7 out of conference record against a “strong SOS” doesn’t help anyone. And the theory of playing good teams gets them ready to play in conference is BS if you ask me. Sure maybe the first game or two of conference play, but by game 3 it doesn’t matter

I'm very pleased we can/should all embrace a fresh start to Redbird Basketball. Excited for the future.

I am going to attend the 11am intro tomorrow at Redbird just to get a sense of the mood and Coach P's ability
to generate some Excitement. If I get a chance I'm going to ask Coach or Brennan what the intent is to managing the Portal in the coming
weeks. A very sound source told me 2 weeks ago he expected every Redbird to place their name in the portal to start the process. This
is gonna be a wild time to watch and appreciate the happenings.

Recruiting - I'm sure it will be a blend of HS and portal. Gotta lean to portal for experience/maturity.

How many new faces due to departures will certainly be interesting. Personally, if most leave and I mean most - I'm ok with it. As many have said when Sy was healthy we had a decent to team to watch and they played hard. I don't want any kid simply tossed aside but guessing there are ways to assist
a young man in finding a new address; a place they can get playing time, compete for success and get their education. Several of our kids have to ask themselves if the MVC is too high of a level for them to compete or was it the lack of their development???

Most, I dream of a program that values a possession - I believe it was Drake's game yesterday where I read they had 5 turnovers in their OT win. Just imagine watching that kind of play.........I mean pro or con for Dan, we had our fill of poor passing and mental mistakes over the 10 years.

I will predict we get an OSU transfer through this process. Someone who's possibly stuck at the end of bench and sees minimal playing time due to the Buckeyes recruiting. Someone Coach P has a strong relationship with and feels can play at our level and succeed. These are the kind of P6 transfers we can get across the midwest due to his network and ties. I'm naive to how this all works but I don't think it's gonna be impossible to recreate a roster this spring.

So many exciting things are ahead. I'm not even a Cub fan but I sound like one - just appreciative for a new approach and fresh start.

I am not sure if this had been posted somewhere or not. His base salary at OSU appears to have been 500k and it mentions some other incentives.

"If any of the assistant coaches choose to leave Ohio State to become a coach at the Division-I level or in the NBA before their contracts end, they would have to pay $50,000 and return "bonuses and supplemental compensation" to the university. They also won't be allowed to contact or recruit anybody that Ohio State had been recruiting unless their new team had also been recruiting the player."

I assume the player could contact us though

In the MVC it appears to be about having strong guards who can penetrate, score or pass with very few turnovers and in turn play solid D without fouling. Loyola and Drake have that. ISU obviously did not.

I am hoping we keep Tone, Lewis, McChesney, and Si. If Strong wants to play another year, that is OK too. I am mixed on Howard Fleming and the rest can be successful elsewhere.

I am pretty sure we can give him more than 4 football tickets as an incentive

Just a note of interest, the new coach is being announced tomorrow morning…the Monday of spring break. Expect very few players in attendance for the announcement.

I am expecting a near complete roster turnover. I think there are some guys Pedon will like to keep talent wise but he talked about establishing his culture. I am more concerned with him getting that established first. If guys don't fit then they don't fit it. There are guys on this team I hope see back but it isn't my choice and will support the team next season no matter the roster.

So, one mentions the 80s successful basketball teams and someone else goes to riots????? Maybe a demonstration or two but a riot????? Where were the burnt buildings where was all the damage??? Maybe an over energetic demonstration but a riot?

Hopefully this new guy can get ISU somewhere back to where ISU basketball was in the 1980s. That level of success would be appreciated. I have watched ISU win two Missouri Valley championships one in Horton, one in Redbird Arena, I would like to see one in STL.

Agreed. There will be a handful back but I don’t expect much else. It appears Howie is sticking around for tomorrow’s presser.

Also, Ohio State junior standout, EJ Liddell went through senior day activities today, meaning he’s not returning to Ohio State. Obviously, his move is likely to the NBA but…. ISU recruited EJ in high school, Pedon was lead recruiter at OSU, EJs parents are Redbirds….Definitely not happening but…Maybe???
