Yikes. Big time whiff on those ones.

Yea I think he could have gotten a better job than this. And as stated before, that is great news for isu…. I also think Ja Morant could have gone to a better school than Murray state. He chose Murray state, and they benefited from it. Not sure what your point is
We have now established who the incredibly stupid guy is….

Oh no, I feel bad for you.
A) for thinking that anything at all MVC related would be all over national news
And
B) for thinking any of those teams other than Belmont are officially in for 2022
Umm . . . except all three schools—not just Belmont— have already announced they’re joining the Valley this fall.

An “elite mid major” conference (oxymoron anyone??) yet every decent team over the last decade (creighton, Wichita, Loyola) leave for a different mid major conference. You are delusional and pathetic quite frankly
Chambo,

I will agree with you on the poor reference that the mvc is an elite mid major. I'm not even sure what that means or if elite and mid major should be in the same sentence. Is a good mid major 2 ncaa tournament teams + 3 NIT teams? Not sure. With that said, I do think the MVC adding Belmont and Murray State is a nice surprise that should make the conference stronger than it is currently (yep, including Loyola) and very respectable for the foreseeable future. I see multiple bid ncaa tournament teams 50% of the time over the course of the next decade for the valley. Do you disagree with this? If so.. please elaborate

That is a reasonable projection. I think the MVC gets screwed by the Committee more often than not, which is why ultimately I don’t think any job in the mvc is that attractive. Many times, the team that wins the conference for the lone bid is still an 11-12 seed. I hope the conference continues to grow, and hopefully sooner rather than later, it’s isu who is getting in as that disrespected 11 seed

I keep waiting for Pedon to say just kidding or something… this is like when the really hot girl dates a huge dork because she doesn’t know how hot she is, and the dork and everyone else are waiting for her to realize it and walk….

Great hire for ISU. Pedon settled big time. A bottom tier team in a falling conference. Unless he just wants to win and knows this conference is bad enough to become a perennial top 2 team in a coupe of years… win and bounce to a better program? This program is bad, this conference is bad.

I really hope some of the players come back next year. Tone, K-Lew, Howie, Sy, Mark and Liam. Does anyone think Jo will come back? I mean, Loyola, Drake and Mo State seem to have players that have been there for 6-7 years and will never graduate.

When Sy went down. so did the inside presence we had for offense and even defense. Sy kept opponents honest and allowed much more freedom for Tone and company. With Sy, this team had a good offense and could put points on the board. Defensively is another story and that is where most of the losses came from. They just couldn't stop people consistently from game to game.

I really think there was talent on the team this year that compared decently on paper with other MVC top-6 teams. It was the defense that sunk this team -- and it honestly boggles my mind why they couldn't play better defense. The talent is there to play good D. The team had speed and quickness and athleticism but just couldn't play D the way it is needed in the Valley to win games.

Hope some come back. Looking forward to seeing what the new coach can bring but need to remind myself to be patient because sometimes rebuilds can take awhile even with the revolving portal door.

I was just watching a 2018-19 Loyola vs ISU game when the Birds stomped them on a rowdy crowd at RA. I thought, if Deontae, MiKyle and DJ hadn't left and mixed them with Malik, Key, Phil, and Copeland -- that team would have been very good. Phil was so good inside and I enjoyed watching him take it to Krutwig -- he scored about 1300 points for the Redbirds in his career.

Those schools do a much better job of recruiting high school talent. The problem with relying on JUCO and D1 transfers every year, is that they have less eligibility and also have left a school before, so more prone to do it again. If we get back reeves, Sy, Fleming, and mcchesney that would be great. I’m assuming Pedon will do a much better job of recruiting HS talent.

Paris Lee, Tony wills, and (for now) Reeves are the only successful HS recruits that didn’t end up leaving the program for another school that I can remember in Mullers entire tenure

ISU is one of the better schools, centrally located and if it gets much better at men’s basketball the media should recognize that. Murray State and Belmont are very very good long term basketball schools. Belmont women’s BB team very good also. UIC added for the Chicago market, which is ok. Not much besides pros gets mentioned in Chicago media unless a nun cheers you to the final four, then you have a great story. Nashville is a great place to hang out especially Broadway street. ISU in the 80s got lots of publicity and that was with a former Big10 assistant coach from the east of ISU. This hire could be the same. ISU plays it right it will be the number 2 school in the state basketball wise. Hard to compete with a school in a very large conference less than 50 miles away but in the 1980s ISU did. No reason we cannot have games in redbird like we used to in Horton. Loud and proud from start to finish.
If successful ISU will get plenty of recognition we just have to start getting consistently to the NIT and NCAA and with 12 schools in the valley and the two quality teams valley added I believe it has a much better chance to be a consistent 2 or more bid league.
Long way to go but it could be a short time to get there. My guess within two to three years we will know if this coach can get it done. If not hopefully they cut ties early and next person up.

My only reservation isn't with the selection, but the "process".

We all thought the AD had a list of go-to candidates to interview; instead, he apparently had a go-to search firm. Those firms generally only recommend their own internal contacts. In this instance it looks real good but it does limit the potential pool of candidates.

Maybe he had 2 lists. His and the search firm. And maybe the list had some of the same candidate.

A search firm is used almost every single time
