Moved this from offseason wish list thread. We have needs at 3 position groups .. WR, DB, DT .. this Notre Dame guy is probably worth a hard look. I believe he came in same class with Josh Barajas, since both redshirted their 1st year at ND.

JR DT Brandon Tiassum is 6'4" 305 lbs from Indianapolis has played very little in his 3 years. They say nothing about what he did. The way Kelly talked about in summer .. he was considered a project and maybe it just wasn't working out.

We should look at him hard .. he's got 2 years left and we're thin at proven DTs.

So he was considered a project because he came out of a very small HS known much more basketball. Park Tudor HS enrollment is around 400 .. which would be high end of IHSA's class 2 or very low end of class 3. Here was their record his 4 years there (2011-14):

2011 3-8
2012 2-9
2013 2-8
2014 2-9
2015 1-9
2016 4-7
2017 4-8

So it was a bad small HS football program ... yet he get a full ride from Notre Dame, undoubtedly dominated his level and likely at least a decent student ... but probably had zero competition and not much chance to prepare for FBS football.

Now he's had 3 years doing the FBS grind, which you know ND Coach Kelly put him thru.

I could find no other issues on him via google .. and given his unusual last name, trouble would have been easy to uncover.

We need to look hard at this guy.

Agree completely. He played in Elko's 4-2-5 (in practice) so he would fit Spack's scheme and should be able to slide right in. Started H.S. at Ben Davis as a frosh and transferred to Tudor. Penthouse to the outhouse athletically. A lot more attention academically. Also played guard in H.S.

Looks like a good fit for both our program and him.
By the way, what's up with Josh Barajas? Does he look like a starter for next year? I was hoping he would earn a starting LB job last year, but it didn't work out that way. I know he was playing on special teams and then got hurt. He looked like a real steal for us. Hoping that's still the case.

good catch on Ben Davis as Freshman .. speaks volumes about where he was at physically. Wonder what caused him to transfer .. if it was for academic reasons .. good on him, though more likely his parents,
