Yet you felt the need to announce that you know the conferences they play in. Congrats on your low major knowledge
Since you said "see you next year", it would be great to see you honor your word and not comment here until next season, if ever again.

Just circled back to see which thin skinned person I offended by simply stating that I’m disgusted with Redbird hoops a week in. Looks like I found 2 of them!

Burford, McChesney, Lewis and Sandage had good games.

Still need to get Knight and Poindexter more involved offensively

Not sure why Kotov wasn't dressed, but it was the obvious difference in the two games

Disagree with the Sandage flop call

Hoping Sissoko makes a return at some point to give us another post

We don't communicate enough on the floor

Not like anyone gives a shit, but I’m gonna stay true to my word and not be negative regarding this team and/or Pedon.
However, by year three if we don’t see significant improvement and better scheduling, I’ll be back to my cranky ways.

Same team different coach. No discipline and just shoot shoot shoot. This team will set a new NCAA record for most tri attempts and lowest made rate.

+1

People getting mad and quitting on the team 4 games into the season with a mostly brand new roster and coaching staff with no expectation of an at large berth need a reality check

I agree, but I also completely understand the frustration.

A big part of shooting it consistently is have game legs. Summer practices and workouts are one thing it major minutes of game time is surely another. I believe we’re playing a slower pace right now because of it. Once more movement is installed in the offense shooting will be better. I call it shooting with energy, running to spots and knowing you have a shot before touching it makes all the difference in the world. Two shots come to mind when posting this. The Burford pass to Kasubuke 3 ball in one game and the Kasabuke pass to Mal in the last game I believe. Both were beautiful passes and shots. The team will be better than most expected I still believe.
Love this post.

Seneca Knight has been disappointing - he needs to step it up, which would help lot on the offensive end and cut down on turnovers. Thin at the guard position does not help. I do like the effort on the defensive end - very much appreciated. Also, getting Lewis in the lane is a big plus on offense. Still plenty of time for Seneca to get going - trying a little too hard and not allowing the game to come to him yet.

Make it three. I went into this season with low expectations and not holding this staff and team responsible for the 20+ year drought. Anyone who was expecting more was being unrealistic imo.

I just wanted to see a team with a different mindset and better fundamentals, and one that is gelling by mid-conference. I'm mostly seeing the first two, even if the early results are frustrating. As currently constructed, this is not a team that is going to win the conference nor likely finish in the top tier (hope I am wrong about the finish) but it feels like this coach is building a foundation that could bear fruit in 2-3 years. That's my glass-half-full take on a team I'm enjoying watching develop.

We played a Valley-quality team (with multiple former Valley starters for mid-tier MSU playing the majority of the minutes to a draw in our home-and-home. That’s a win in my book, especially with the intensity of the game the other night and the way the Birds fought back from being down 14.

I’m sure there will be some more eggs like vs WIU laid along the way, but the effort is there and until guys get hurt like the always do, there is depth, too. Hopefully we steal some games against teams we’re not supposed to beat yet, too.

They played hard, entertaining basketball Thursday night; I’ll take that in Year One.

Here is my analysis of the players.
This was the first game I saw this year, so I obviously don’t have a complete picure of the entire team, but obviously some conclusions can be made by watching the players on the team.

1st of all, NW St was a more athletic and talented team with players that had more confidence to get to the hoop. Definitely a great defensive team that will be tough for any offense. That being said, ISU hung tough and had a chance to win the game.

KLew is our best player both offensively and defensively. He is a man among boys.

Sandage is the best and possibly only outside shooter. He plays with confidence. Can also handle the ball so I’m surprised they didnt put him at point when Burford was out. Although he is the only quality shooter so they probably didn’t want him to share point.

Knight appears to have cement blocks on his feet. He can’t keep up with forwards and definitely not guards. He obviously had talent at one point in his career and hopefully he can get back to that level once he gets in a little better shape.

I like how Burford can drive to the hoop and sometime finish. He is very quick when he wants to be. However, He is definitely a mouse in the house and will be exposed on defense.

Mcchesney-some nice offensive boards and easy dunks when he was wide open. He was consistently defended by guards and he could not get the ball down low or take advantage. Coaches keep saying he can shoot, he’s just never been able to prove it and it appears he has abandoned his outside shot which is probably a good thing.

Poindexter-appears to lack confidence and will do anything to get the ball out of his hands. Let’s hope he is able to improve.

Petrakis-I’d like to see a little more of him. He most of the time but he just couldn’t get the ball down low. Based on his history, maybe he’ll be an added shooter. Definitely needs to be the starting center to give us some size and skill down low.

Kasubke-I think he will be a quality player. You can tell he has the ability to shoot and is a smart player. He is out of position when they put him at point.

Andrews-not sure he’ll see much of the floor this year. He needs some more confidence and training.

It appears No one wants to shoot the ball beside Sandage unless they get low in the shot clock.

In the first half, it appeared The offense and inbounds plays were an exact replica of DM’s last year. But luckily they did show some differences in the second half. I know people will say we just don’t want to show anything prior to conference but every team has motion offenses, pick and rolls, V and back door cuts, I don’t think by just running motions you’ll be giving up anything obvious. I hope these players will have the ability to master running a standard offense or we could be in trouble.

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to get that off my chest. I know it will sound negative but I think there are definitely some positives. I think with Burford, Sandage, Kasubke, KLew and Petrakis we have a solid starting group with a little bit of depth. Let’s hope they can bring it all together.
