Some kid threw a piece of pizza at my friend in the 2nd half. It smeared and soaked his face. The caused him to spill his pop all over himself

Well, that wasn't great, and an 0-2 start at home is really not how you want to begin your D1 coaching career. My other thoughts:

- While we still look unorganized and lost offensively, we did seem to run a few more things. We ran some high low with our athletic bigs that worked well. And ran some high post screens for guards to get the hoop. When we did we looked great, when we didn't we look absolutely lost.

- On top of that NWST looked better offensively than they did when we played at their place. It looks like they made adjustments and we really didn't.

- I'm going to keep harping on it until we do it, but our guards need to play defense with their feet. We kept dropping back Lewis and Liam to compensate, but quick or highly skilled guards are going to eat us alive. We should likely play more zone to limit the dribble penetration and give us a reason to leave Liam and Lewis by the basket.

- If Lewis continues to play at this level, he will easily be a 1st team All-MVC player

- Sandage looked way more comfortable in front of the hometown crowd this game. The flopping tech at the end of the game was garbage and really drove a nail in our coffin.

- Knight looks completely out of sorts. I feel like we need to start posting him up, and let him use his strength against a wing, or force a big to guard him.

Side note, does anyone know what happened after the game when the NWST players seemed to be getting into it with our fans that were sitting court side?

I saw one of our fans (taller man in a red shirt if I remember correctly) that seemed extremely worked up. Not sure who started what but whatever the incident was, it looked terrible. The NWST players were going after some fans and saying a lot of things and I'm genuinely curious who the instigator was, what was said, etc.

I've seen some really ugly incidents between fans and players in the last few years and a few of the times, it was the fans that were completely out of line (and in some cases the fans were later banned from future events) where other times it was on the players.

Whatever it was, it needs to be addressed in my opinion.

Pro tip: if you schedule teams that 99% of the ncaa fan base can’t tell you what conference they play in, make sure you beat them. See you next year Redbird fans

"Can't win at home" is not exactly the narrative I thought we'd incur, even very early in a completely transitional/rebuilding season.

Trying not to get too upset. This is going to take time. Still confident we're going to see steady improvement as the season rolls on, but geez...these kinds of losses can't happen, early in the season & new regime or not.

Was told by someone who was sitting there that the players came over unprovoked. Take it for what it's worth. Maybe there is some history there with the Missouri State transfers since we beat them in a hotly contested tilt last year.

The loss sucks. No other way around it. However, I really appreciate Pedon's postgame comments. He takes accountability but is also real to where the team is at in the season/process. The reality is that this team was never going to compete for an at-large. The noncon (and really most games before January) at this level are opportunities to learn and grow as a team so you are playing your best basketball come March. Of course, you would like to learn what you need to clean up and do better as a team with a win, but it's not always going to turn out that way.

I'll share that during the comeback, the last couple minutes, RBA was louder than it has been in several years. Too bad the energy from the crowd wasn't there all game, but I suppose some could say that is on the players for not giving fans anything to get excited about.

This team could very well be one that feels more pressure at home than on the road. Maybe on the road, they can feel relaxed and just get into their game. Hopefully, that pays dividends in Cayman.

If you would've told me 3 weeks ago this team is 2-2. I think everyone on here would assume the two wins were at RBA. So....that's something different than past seasons...

Also, just watched the replay of the "flop" on Sandage...There was definitely contact from Prim's foot as Colton landed. Colton kind of flailed his feet up once he hit the ground, which did not help his case. Bad call for sure. My biggest question would be around the timing of the whistle. Shot goes up, Colton comes down on Prim's foot, hits the ground, the rebound is tipped around a bit and once NWST secures it, and takes a dribble the other way, the whistle comes. Feels like if that was going to be called a flop, it should've been immediate before the result of the play?

Regarding the postgame player-fan interaction, I have nothing to add except from what I just watched back from the replay. Once the buzzer sounded, I hit get out of RBA to not get caught in traffic. It looked like the players went over after the game and had some words with the fans sitting court side. It took NWST staff WAY TOO long to intervene. In fairness to the players, maybe there was some trash talk from the fans throughout the game, who knows. But the fact it took the coaches that long to get involved is a bad look for NWST. At the end of the broadcast, their HC went over to talk with the fans but you couldn't see what was said.

I thought we should have called time out and put Burford back in the game when we got the defensive block. Sharp picks Luke's pocket and get the go ahead basket. We then put Bueford back in the game.

We had 2 timeouts and and called one when Lewis made his 3 ... not sure why.
I thought he should have definitely called a timeout after the block to get Burford back in, we would have had the ball with 58 seconds left and full shot clock to then get our point guard, leading scorer and floor general in to run a play. He was our leading scorer and had 5 assists to 1 turnover last night and really seeing him get comfortable is what I expected from him this year.
Not calling the timeout down 3 I was alright with that, I kind of like the scramble off of a rebound and go, Sandage had a couple good looks just couldn't get it to go down.

This season is a learning experience for everyone and Pedon might have made some mistakes last night. Take each game as it is and learn from them. I was disappointed that the team came out flat last night and let Northwestern State punch us in the mouth and we didn't do anything about it. Pedon said he got on the guys in the locker room for it. I was encouraged by how the team came out after half when Pedon got on the guys, they played extremely hard and fought back together as a team.

I still like how they are coming together and this season is one big learning experience, everyone is getting to know each other how they take each game but I would like to see Seneca Knight calm down and just let the game come to him. I expected a lot from him and he's trying to hit a homerun every time he has the basketball. Relax and the game will come.

I am kind of thinking some of this as well. I think he is taking the Non-conference as a learning experience to grow for the conference season. Fans may be upset but our non-conference was never going to get us an at-large NCAA birth. Pedon is learning and growing just as the players are.

Brennan talked to me at the coaches show on Monday and I said " I was glad they had 2 road games to get out get away from RBA and just play basketball. There is a lot of excitement for a new coach, a new style, a new everything and it looks like the players feel the pressure of wanting to win and wanting everything to be perfect for the team so fans and community will be there."

Pedon kind of sounded like he wished he called the TO, though he still sounded unsure in his press conference about it.

In my opinion, that is where that tech to change the lead from 2 to 3 was huge. I think if we call a time-out with a 2 point deficit, we could possibly set up a better shot. I think if we call a timeout with a 3 point lead, Northwestern State has time to set up their defense and foul us before we get a 3 point lead.

Did they officially say the Sandage call was a flop? After seeing the replay, I thought they teched him for sticking his foot up and tripping their player.

What I was thinking more so was the game was tied at 67 all with a minute left after the Liam block that Kasubke got the rebound on. Sharp steals it from Kasubke and converts 2 free throws with 58 seconds left and we are down 69-67. Burford got subbed out at 2:19 bc of the cramps. When the score was 67 all after the block and rebound on defense that's when the timeout should have been called. Tie game you can get Burford back in and then set up a play and your best guard was then brought in. I hope Pedon learns from those situations in the future and our team learns from those situations.

You piqued my curiosity...I just rewatched and it looks like the red called flop.
