if you're interested this is a good story about a bad doctor:
Two years ago, my headaches were so bad I went to neurosurgeon in the suburbs and on my third visit he thought I might have Parkinson’s. Neither Dorene nor I liked him, but I had waited 4 months to get into see him. He put me on a very strong Parkinson’s medication and within 4 weeks I was having worse problems with my headaches and balance. He then put me on two more medications and things started snowballing from there.
1. started having problems with vertigo and couldn't drive
2. when I tried to stand my blood pressure dropped and I would get so dizzy I would have to sit down again.
3. Then he sent me to a cardiologist who diagnosed me with Orthostatic Hypotension which causes blood pressure to get too low when you stand up, so he put me on a medication that raises your blood pressure and after a few months on that medication my blood pressure got too high and out of control.
Then this nutty Neurologist sent me for more blood work and when the results came back, he said I should see an Oncologist because some things in the test showed I might have cancer. I then went and had my hip drilled into and bone marrow removed, and we waited a couple of nervous weeks for the results. I did not have cancer thank heavens.
4. Later I passed out on our front steps and fell backwards onto our cement sidewalk and suffered blood on the brain (subdural Hematoma) and was transferred to two hospitals and was in ICU for two days. It took me 5 weeks to recover and get over dizzy spells and had to use a walker for a couple of months.
While I was in the hospital, they recommended I see a "better" neurologist at Northwestern Medical. My first visit there, He told me he didn't like to talk bad about other doctors but had a suspicion I might have been misdiagnosed. With my permission he wanted to start treating me over from the beginning and start taking me off all the medication a little at a time. We thought that was a great idea as all I could do by now was sit in a chair and stumble around the house and suffer more falls.
Over the next few months he started weening me off the medications and about a month ago my balance was improving, no more vertigo and he changed me to a new blood pressure medication, and it is now back in the normal range. I started taking daily B12 shots that improve balance and will always have to take them.
Unfortunately, the medications created some long-term problems that can't be fixed. The Parkinson’s meds damaged my kidneys and i now have stage 2 kidney disease. That's the medication I must take now that costs us $260 a month.
I am now walking better, not using a cane and am returning to work.
Thanks for all the kind words
