The Redbirds will travel to Columbia to meet old friend Robin Pingeton and the Tigers in the opening round of the NIT on Thursday night.

Damn shame a conference champ doesn't get at least one home game out of the deal. Whatever.
We would still have the opportunity to host in round 2. I believe we would have to outbid Kansas or Western Kentucky though. Kansas is hosting in round 1 FWIW

This is purely about $$$. They made match-ups based on the least costly travel they could. Mizzou must have just outbid us.

Sure...but...post-season tournaments never lose sight of the story line, either. There is no doubt some intentionality behind this match-up of ISU head coaches. There are winks, quite often, in post-season play.

I totally agree, but wouldn’t a better story line have Robin come back to Redbird?

I strongly doubt it. Mizzou made sense in the match-ups because they didn’t see like they wanted to do Arkansas vs Little Rock or Mizzou vs MoST. It also didn’t appear like they wanted to do P5 vs P5 in the opening round. The Texas schools got matched up except for an easy-to-travel SMU-UALR. If they were wanting the best R1 match-ups, you probably get SMU-La Tech.

Best bet for us is a road win and then hope we outbid KU or WKU. What the committee sees is the potential for a R2 Border War rivalry. Let’s play spoiler to that!

Bad time of year to slump. Still a solid season worth enjoying. They were more fun to watch than the men

Oh, and
Pingeton...

So proud of this team on and off the court. This is a special team. You don't always have players that are cheering for each other but that is what this team did. They cheered on each other's success more than their own. Heck, most of them went to Mary's thesis defense. Their families are the same way. I was able to sit near most of them at Hoops in the Heartland and it was a joy to watch how much they cheered for each others kids. This past week I have heard parents, players, and Coach G all say that they didn't want to disappoint the fans last weekend. They care about the fans and representing Illinois State University. For any of them reading this, you did not disappoint us. We share in your disappointment that this amazing season has come to end. We are proud to call all of you Redbirds. For the seniors, we can't wait to see all the great things you are going to go out and do in this world. For the rest of the team, we will be right back in Redbird Arena cheering you on next season. Lift your head up and be proud of all you have accomplished. Thank you for the memories.

It was a disappointing way to end the season the last 2 games. I felt bad for Robinson to finish like that, but she had a great career and a great one year here. But for those of us on the board who are long time ISU fans, we suffered through the Barb Smith years, this year and the last few have been a million times better. These players and Coaches have brought the program back to relevance. Frankly what they have done is what we want for the men. They should be proud of what they accomplished.

Great season once again by the women. They do an amazing job of representing ISU!

Just wish ISU could get over the hump in something.....
