I've been to a bunch of games at Ryan Field, and I appreciated the classic and graceful architecture of the current stadium. But amenities were scarce, and access was difficult for older fans. They were greatly limited in their planning by the difficult neighbors around the stadium. I admit that game days would impact the neighborhood, but with a 96 year old stadium, no one bought their houses without knowing it was there. They needed to stay within the same footprint, so no expansion around the existing structure would be accepted.

Looks like a nice facility. Fewer seats...that is unusual. I have walked around the stadium but have never been there on game day. My first thought was it must be a terrible mess with traffic on game days! No public funding? Go Wildcats!

I'm late to this inane conversation, but Southwest Missouri State University was never SWMS.

12K fewer seats. Wow. The Ryan family must have deep deep pockets.

Part owner of the Bears? Too old to be the majority owner?? :)

Ryan owns 10% of the 6 billion dollar Bears. After Virginia dies you would think the 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren would want to cash in. Or is it cash out? Halas paid $5000 for the team 100 years ago. Not bad.

NW doesn't need a bigger stadium. Historically...they suck, but can count on good big 10/12/14/17/ 21 crowds. They have had some solid years but, that looks to be in the past as they work their way down the ladder back into the basement. Probably should have bought out Miami of Ohio after SIU spanked them.

Heard the Bears Family is split on selling. Like the lottery...take the cash up front or get those yearly payouts.

Here is an article about the Bear's ownership. I expect there will be some change, maybe a big change when Virginia passes away. Lots of speculation but I can easily see the younger ones wish to just cash in. I can't say a change in ownership would be a bad thing. You never know, look what happened to the Redskins/Commanders!

They should 100% sell .. this franchise is in desperate need a full overhaul at the top. Grass isn't always greener, but we've underachieved and let down the fans way too much over the decades.

And Halas/McCaskey should only move to Arlington Hts if they are getting very strong OUTSIDE advice that this will be viewed as value added to buyers. If not, they should make zero changes, and let the new owners make all the imortant decisions. Current ownership has made too many key mistakes over the years.

The McCaskey family has made terrible decisions over and over. You can go back to Michael who took full credit for a Super Bowl team he had nothing to do with building and then proceeded to dismantle it piece by piece. The McCaskey offspring have been running the Bears for years and nobody really has to even try to make a case. Their results speak for themselves. I personally would like to see a new direction for the team. Ted Phillips is FINALLY going to be gone. The team changed Phillip's responsibilities after firing Nagy and Pace so that the GM would no longer report to Phillips. Now the GM reports to George McCaskey...and that is better? George is the guy the allowed one more season for the Nagy/Pace duo when it was painfully obvious they were inept, particularly Pace. Most people point at the Trubisky move as the worst move Pace made. Pace dumped Robbie Gould in 2015 because he thought he was over the hill. What a brilliant move...the double doink move! Okay, no more Bears talk for me. I already take meds for high blood pressure!

Badgers can Paul Chryst. Lose to Bielema, lose your gig.
I find this astonishing (well maybe not astonishing given this day and age we're in) and ridiculous, although Chryst can wipe his tears with all those hundies, now. What's your take on this, Madbird?

I was surprised at the firing of Chryst. This article from the Athletic states that the program wanted to give the D-Coordinator a span to prove he should be given the job full-time. Leonhard gets a chance to audition. Chryst was 67-26 during his run with the Badgers. Pretty good record overall. There seems to me to be a story there I would guess.

There's either more to this story or some serious unrealistic expectations in Madison. I can see OSU or Michigan doing this following a start like this season, but not UW. While his overall record may be padded with some cupcakes, he had a solid tenure. If there was a 12 team CFP, like what is proposed, he probably has 2-3 teams that would have made it. While I know that's not the case, 3 trips to the CFP in 7 years would be a heck of an accomplishment at UW. Enjoy that buyout $$$ and go live life.

Totally unrealistic expectations. He was 43-18 in conference play. If you take out the covid year of 2020, where they finished 3rd in conference, his other 6 years were: FIRST, FIRST, FIRST, SECOND, SECOND and SECOND in conference play.
7 straight bowl games, and Wisky won 6 of them.
Only other firing that comes close is probably Ed Ogeron.

Didn't Ogeron have some personal issues that led to his being shown the door?

As reported by Virginia, cutting to the chase, this is about UW trying to hold on to Jim Leonhard, I would say. Pretty sure he interviewed for the Green Bay Packer D coordinator job a year or two ago, being suggested for Nebraska now, has options at both college and pro level.

Exactly why they soured on Chryst, at this time, I'm not totally sure - his record isn't that bad, but UW wants more. Some rumblings after they got hosed at Ohio State two weeks ago, losing to Bielema Saturday had to have pushed AD over the limit. Chryst has lost a couple games he shouldn't have, over the years - last year 16-10 loss at home to Penn St., loss to Minny last year, 2020 10 point road loss to Northwestern and home loss to Indiana, 2019 one point loss in Champaign, etc. There was always this undercurrent of underachievement among some of the fandom. QB's not working out - running backs, no problem, linebackers no problem, offensive linemen no problem, but QB's not so much.
