footballscoop.com is reporting a couple MVFC assistants are moving on:

Kent State: Southern Illinois (FCS) receivers coach Mark Watson is joining the offensive staff at Kent State, per multiple reports.

Iowa State: Pete Thamel tweets this morning that the Cyclones are expected to hire Ryan Clanton as their new offensive line coach. Clanton spent the last several seasons at Northern Iowa (FCS), where he served as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Prior to joining the UNI staff in 2018, Clanton was the offensive coordinator at the junior college level at Ventura College (JC - CA).

There are reports now that Bobby Petrino is leaving UNLV after just a few weeks (and zero games coached) to take the OC job at Texas A&M after all.
Bobby takes commitment and loyalty to a new level.
If it ends up being true nobody can say they are surprised. With his track record it has to be buyer beware when you hire Petrino.

Nah . . . Chad Dollar was a Birds AC for Muller for a week before Pearl poached him.

From an article today in USA Today about the FCS championship game, a note about future schedules for the Dakotas. No Valpo's there.

North Dakota State opens the 2023 season on Sept. 2 in Minneapolis, one of the school’s largest alumni bases, against perennial FCS playoff team Eastern Washington. South Dakota State still hopes to fill an open slot on its 2023 schedule for Labor Day weekend. As of now, the first set game is Sept. 9 at home against 2021 national runner-up Montana State, which the Jackrabbits beat in this season’s national semifinal game

Well we don't know SDSU full schedule (at least from that one paragraph) they haven't posted anything but the MVFC on their site.

NDSU non conf is Eastern Washington (neutral site), Maine, Central Arksanas. So yeah no Valpos there for next season. Though Maine was 2-9 this past year in FCS at least they were in FCS.

So is Valpo.

I realize we have some teams on our schedule that will be heavy underdogs to us. Georgia played Samford and Kent State out of conference this year. Kind of like us playing Dayton and Lindenwood next season. Not as exciting for the fans, but they have their purpose. Win enough, make the playoffs, and win some more.

Maybe I shouldn't have thrown in the shot at scheduling Valpo, what I was really impressed with was scheduling top intersectional or inter-conference non-con games, E. Washington, Montana St. Have wanted to see that for us for a long time. Altho I also support the EIU game, and I spose that is where our FCS "big game" would fit in our scheduling.

I have zero issue with ISU scheduling a patsy .. most teams do it, even good teams ... plus we always try to play an FBS team (more P5 than G5), plus we play in the MVFC, so our schedule is plenty tough. So a patsy game makes complete sense, and again, most teams do it. Besides, it's not just for us, it is also for the patsy program .. a small $ buy game, plus a chance to play a stronger program if they come from a patsy league like Pioneer, etc.

Our issue in recent years has more to do with EIU's program not being what it used to be .. reasonably competitive, plus a rivalry game. But there have been more blowouts than competitive games these past 5 years. So EIU has turned into a better than average patsy, for lack of better term.

So I would rather we started doing the EIU rivalry game every other year, so we can add in a decent FCS game alternating years. That and every 4 years, there is an extra week and we play 12 games ... we usually try to add a decent/good FCS game those seasons with 12 games .. i.e. mid tier Big Sky, though they've improved a lot the last 5 years.

But 1 patsy game minimum makes complete sense IMO.

Bisons Defensive Coordinator "enters transfer portal" - to Northwestern.

Interesting. I was looking over the Bisonville forum over the weekend just to see how their fans were taking the loss. Most gave credit to the Jackrabbits for the win. Quite a few were all over the defensive coordinator and Head Coach. Maybe he saw a good time to get off the bus!

Holy crap ... dude was hanging on for this moment. Give him so much credit for how strong and consistent his program has been. And how much they hung in there being 2nd fiddle to Bison .. even beating them several times in regular season, but never in FCS post season .. until now.

Congrats to Coach Stig and the Jackrabbits ... great season, career, and program/

It's a damn crime Drake gets to be the opponent in this game, a conference game, especially vs. one of the Dakotas (or Old State U, for that matter) would pack the place for sure. But boo-yah to SDSU for lining this game up. I was at the St. John's-St. Thomas game and it was pretty cool. From today's Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

South Dakota State, which won the FCS national football championship on Jan. 8, will play Drake on Sept. 16 at Target Field. This will be the third college football game at the home of the Twins. SDSU, which beat North Dakota State in the FCS Championship Game in Frisco, Texas, will be the home team. Kickoff time and ticket information has not yet been released. Target Field set a then-Division III record when 37,355 fans attended St. Thomas’ 20-17 victory over St. John’s in 2017. North Dakota State beat Butler in 2019 before 34,544.

Intra-conference move by NDSU to fill its DC opening. Jason Petrino from SIU going north.

North Dakota State: Jason Petrino has accepted the defensive coordinator job. He spent the last four seasons building the defense at Southern Illinois (FCS) into one of the best defenses in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Changes at SDSU and YSU, one outgoing, one incoming. SDSU loses RB coach.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Jeremy Larkin has accepted the role of running backs coach at Youngstown State. In 2022, Larkin was a full-time staffer in Marcus Freeman's Notre Dame program, where Larkin assisted in a variety of roles for the Fighting Irish that included analyst, high school relations and also assisted the robust recruiting efforts of Chad Bowden and company in Notre Dame's highly-touted signing class.

Western Kentucky: Andre Crenshaw has been formally announced as running backs coach. He spent last season coaching the same position at South Dakota State (FCS).
