My late friend, dropped dead of a heart attack at 60, had a degree in mechanical engineering. H e once told me there was only 3 things that you had to know to be an engineer. The first was this long complicated math formula. 2, water runs down hill, all by itself and 3, you can't push rope. :)
This is fantastic news for the University.

This is great news and kudos to ISU for getting this approved. The orange and blue mob that encompasses Springfield are probably not happy about this. I expected more of an uphill battle here, which makes this even more incredible.

Does anyone recall when Southwest Misery St wanted to change their name to Misery St? The U of Misery fought hard to keep that from happening. Simply didn't want the competition.

I still think this explanation applies to a possible political block on a law school for ISU; Even though a new law school would not be in the same league with u of I and would not be "competition" with respect to prestige, there's no way that u of I will allow an alternative 50 miles away if they can stop it.

I didn't intend for my reply to be inserted in the middle of the original gobirfs85 post, but y'all can probably sort out my doubt about ISU establishing a law school if u of I has anything to say about it.

Interesting from that article:

The College of Engineering will include the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering with degree programs in electrical, mechanical, and general engineering. University officials are targeting the fall of 2025 for enrollment of the first class of students.
