Butler just kicked FG to take 23-21 lead with :04 left in game ... holy crap, Bo Pelini's head probably just exploded.

Butler was 6-5 last year with 2 of those wins being non-D1. We beat Butler 45-0 last year too.

Butler wins and Pelini's got trouble. The Penguins head to West Virginia next week. The Mountaineers are handling Tennessee right now. Looks like 0-2 start for YSU!

Montana 26
UNI 23

UNI with a furious late rally from down 26-0, but it falls short and the MVFC loses a key game. This would have been a huge boost to UNI’s playoff resume this year.

Impressive showing by USD .. very impressive loss to a very good FBS team from a year ago.

UNI was horrible in first half .. promising QB Dunne was 2 for 14 at one point. Montana is reportedly a very tough venue to play in .. NDSU lost their couple years ago. So I am not down on UNI yet .. I have them picked to be 2nd in MVFC. But just a terrible start to their season offensively.

YSU ... no words to describe that loss to Butler. That was team we beat 45-0 last year and they graduated 7 seniors off that defense.

WIU battled on road against an average Big Sky team (Mont St) .. not a good start, but like us last year, they lost a lot off their OL .. so jury still out.

SDSU had their game canceled after playing just 5 mins into Q1 .. not sure what happened yet.

SIU smoked Murray St .. SIU could be for real .. on offense anyway.

NDSU smoked a weak Cal Poly (1-10 last year).

I watched most of the second half of the UNI game - which was a delayed telecast on Comcast + - their offense did not get moving until they changed QBs - the first one #14 looked a lot like Kolbe. Announcers talked about how the UNI O-Line took control of the second half - Montana was lucky UNI did not switch QBs earlier.

Interesting about the SDSU game. If we finish at 7-4 (6 D1 wins) and SDSU finishes at 6-4, how do they decide who makes the playoffs?

if SDSU finished with 4 FCS losses and we have only 3 FCS losses ... and all else is relatively equal, we should be in. But other things matter to .. like if we crap the bed twice like last year against NAU and SIU .. not just losses, but bad losses .. then who knows. But that would also mean we beat some highly ranked teams.

It's never one thing of course for playoff selection process ... but playing a non D-I team can only hurt us .. it can not help, period.

No argument from anyone on this board. Sad that it probably came down to dollars and cents.

If all things are equal, you would think the tie breaker is: Oct 27th: South Dakota State @ Illinois State.

Not as good a week 1 as I'd have hoped, although there were some bright spots (USD)
