The mvc is one addition away from being a playin league. We might as well add what add U of I Springfield and get it done and truly pushes mvc to a bottom feeder play in league. You wonder why Conference USA wanted to add Illinois state is wary over the basketball program. Same with the AAC. Can you believe they talked about these things on Sports Talk Radio here in Florida. I guess wjbc can only do so much LOL

They are wary over the basketball program, but cool with the football program that has half a stadium and MAYBE 10,000 people at home games? It may have been chatter on the radio, but there is no way these two conferences have ever been serious about adding ISU. There are 20 programs that get invites to these conferences before ISU is even whispered.

I would disagree with CUSA. After this season, they are losing six members (to AAC) while returning only five. They are adding two FBS football independents and two FCS schools to get back to nine. They are wanting members (inventory) to stay viable. At this point they will take any FCS school that has a pulse and willing to make the jump.

LEAVING
Alabama-Birmingham
Florida Atlantic
North Carolina-Charlotte
North Texas
Rice
Texas-San Antonio

STAYING
Florida International
Louisiana Tech
Middle Tennessee State
Texas-El Paso
Western Kentucky

ARRIVING
Jacksonville State
Liberty
New Mexico State
Sam Houston State

This is all after Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Mississippi departed for the Sun Belt this year. Think about that. The Sun Belt used to be the FBS life preserver conference.

JSU ($80 million stadium renovation on the way)
Liberty ( They just keep adding to their stadium. Paying Hugh Freeze $4 million a year. $29 million IPF. They have $$$$)
New Mexico State ( They have been FBS forever)
Sam Houston (I'm sure they are ready to go all-in for football)
Illinois State (Looks like we got red helmets for a game this year? No football stadium upgrades on the horizon except the bubble)
ISU is SO far from being on the football level of these 4 schools. Could we compete on the field? Meh...maybe? We cannot compete with the $$$ or the vision these schools have to move forward. 3 of those 4 schools will move up in 4 years. I wonder if there is even formal conversation in the President's and AD's offices about moving to FBS?? I bet there isn't.

20 programs? A bit sarcastic/exaggerating I assume.
I would say if Missouri State doesn't go Sunbelt, you could add them to the list. Perhaps the MAC gets poached (Buffalo). Youngstown?

Toss geography out the window since that is clearly a non factor in conference realignment. NDSU, SDSU, Kennesaw State, Richmond, Chattanooga, ETSU (just built a new stadium, could easily expand), Jackson State, Missouri State, Montana, Montana State, Youngstown, Eastern Kentucky, Nova, any new additions to FCS (they aren't moving up to stay in FCS)... I'll leave the MAC out since those schools seem to be content with where they are. Some of these may be a little bit of a stretch, but not anymore than ISU is. What is ISU doing to think we are going to get a FBS conference invite anytime soon? The vision should have been to tear down the west side and finish the stadium. I know, I know, "you going to write the check for that?". Nope! Other schools are figuring it out. ISU has just decided not to do so. This conference realignment is all going to shake out before the 12 team CFP takes effect. We should be getting in line for the dominoes to fall. I just don't think we are.

I see it as a moot point. I would think ISU would not want to join that conference. Western Kentucky wants out and almost got in the MAC and would have but for Middle Tennessee that supposedly has eyes on AAC. The conference isn’t stable and is spread all over the place. Personally I don’t see any reason ISU would want in that conference.

I think this has been covered quite a bit. But from a structural stand point, you can't just get rid of the west side stands. Not unless your ready to completely get rid of Horton Fieldhouse. I know they put in a brand new track surface not to long ago and I want to say that cost 1.25 mil or so.

It was one of conferences mentioned by OP. Which conference should ISU want to join?

Just an opinion. Stay with where we are, but invite the Dakota 4 into the Valley for all sports. Privates, if they have a fit with 4 more public schools, can leave. Grow this league into the best of what is left of the FBS group and FCS after the big boys leave to form their own governing body.
