I think the point of the Horizon rule would be to give their league adequate time to find a replacement. I would guess UIC had the option to tell the Valley we will be joining your league in the 2023-2024 seasons. The rule makes perfect sense to me, however schools are switching conferences almost as fast as players are switching schools. It is a different world. I get it.

Just an update UMKC that school we all said was not good enough for the MVC is now 19-10 sounds like they are better than us
Just because they're having a DECENT season vs worse competition doesn't mean they're better

All 3 of our future members wrapped up their regular seasons today.

UIC: 13-15 (9-10 HL)
Murray State: 28-2 (18-0 OVC)
Belmont: 25-6 (15-3 OVC)

The league is going to be in great shape. Losing the 4th best team in the league ;) while adding 2 incredible programs and a hopefully up and coming UIC team.

I agree, the MVC did a fantastic job to replace LU. Likely the best we could do with who was available. I’m still surprised LU decided to move on. Why not continue in the MVC, a conference they’ve come to dominate for the better part of the last 4+ seasons? The almighty dollar, I assume.

The A-10 is a better conference than the MVC - there's really no debate. It isn't unreasonable for Loyola to think they could dominate the A-10 over time. However, there is a many a case of an a program jumping into deeper waters and sinking. Tulsa's basketball's program has never reached the level it was when they played in the MVC, although they changed conferences mostly because of football, and their football program has flourished in the non-Power 5 conference sense of flourishing. DePaul really sunk when they got into the Big East (although remaining an independent would have been untenable). Creighton definitely made the right move and I think they will be a contender in the Big East for some time - and I'm happy for them as they were a classy program. WSU, a non classy program, is going to regret its decision in time. They will find themselves in the bottom of a mediocre conference with miserable travel obligations. With Houston, Cincinnati, and UCF making the jump to the Big 12, the luster of AAC took a big hit, and I think WSU will have trouble recruiting and competing in the new AAC. But to get back to your point, sometimes it is better to stay a big fish in a smaller pond, and Loyola will find out soon enough. And to get back to the point of the thread, the MVC did a fine job of bringing in new schools. MVC will continue to be a top mid-major conference. And, it is a conference that ISU will once again rule (keep the faith, Redbird fans).

From a money standpoint, Creighton made the right move by joining the Big East. From the product on the court, I'm not sure their product on the court is any better than it was when they were in the Valley. This year Loyola has a net ranking of 31 while Creighton is 67. If Creighton stayed in the conference, they might have been the team that went far twice in the NCAA instead of Loyola, From 1999 to 2013, Creighton(mvc) made 9 ncaa tournaments and won 4 games. From 2014 to 2021, Creighton(big east) made the tournament 4 times and won 3 games.

DePaul wasn't an independent when they joined the Big East - they had been in Conference USA, and before that the Great Midwest Conference (which merged with the Metro Conference in 1995 to form C-USA). They stuck with their long-time rival Marquette to give the Big East a midwest presence when they joined in 2005. Was it the right move? Record would say otherwise, but at the time it seemed logical.

Money versus opportunity/performance. One may say DePaul/Tulsa/Wichita State made a mistake, but we would all want to jump at the chance for more exposure/money (even if that meant tougher path to championships) if offered. Money is the year-in/year-out guarantee.
