Looking at it from what strengths I think both WIU and ISU have. Both have good agricultural departments. Both have a good criminal/public safety programs. Similar geographical, downstate, locations. Western could benefit from ISU business school programs. If I was restructuring it I would just have undergraduate programs at EIU and WIU and have masters and doctoral programs headquartered out of the “parent” institution but use remote learning as much as possible. Just ideas and thinking out loud.

I used to want to be invited to the upper D-I level, I guess mainly for recognition and it could improve all other sports. However, I think I'd rather compete for a National Championship vs. playing for football for the sake of playing football. I'd welcome a change, but I'm currently in no rush.

Agree with the above. Have lots of ag friends in Nebraska worried about Big whatever re-alignment. If Nebraska will be replaced? What about Big 10/SEC going to 24 teams with an inside national champion playoff, etc. What we are is not the “elite” but what is the elite today?

At this point it doesn’t really matter. Illinois State’s administrations have continued to sit on their hands and have squandered, perhaps a record amount, of potential. Such a shame, it never had to turn out like this.

Nebraska FB is the “only game in town” and really the region. People attend games and viewers tune in like it’s a devout religion.

There is a reason they draw huge crowds for FB and VB (more for VB than most D-1 MBB programs) and continue to be a good TV draw. They also travel well, so schools like a NW, when they are down, are going to sell 2x or more tickets to Husker fans than their own. Even with a down FB program, Nebraska still provides valuable content to national broadcast interest and good BTN content/draw. ESPN, Fox, etc isn’t going to want to lose that draw.

If the B10 didn’t want Nebraska for some reason, the Big 12 would have an offer out before the B10 delivered notice in writing.

In a few years, there could be an opportunity for more FCS schools to move up. Does a P5 conference add a Liberty? Add USF or Memphis? Add UConn? Eventually you’re going to run out of schools who are ready to make a move.

Pac-?? and MWC may want to merge so you have Wazzu, Oregon St, Boise St, SDSU, Wyoming, UNLV, Fresno St, Hawaii, and Nevada plus whoever else is in that mix. Let’s face it, Oregon St and Wazzu, despite some success over the years by coaches who exceeded expectations, are a better athletic/size/budget fit for a new merged league.

Stanford goes independent like ND and Cal has to make a decision about what they want to do.
