I normally root for the Valley teams in the playoffs but this morning I had to admit that I really want to see Montana St. win the FCS National title. NDSU has some really good fans, but they have some obnoxious ones too and I got tired of that "Fargo South" stuff when we were in Frisco, TX.

Montana St. won my respect in the semi-finals against South Dakota St. I wanted the Jacks to win (they did pull off two upsets on the road over seeded entries), but the SDSU QB would hookslide at the end of his runs. WhatThe- was that all about!? This is a National semi-final playoff. Win or go home. When you hookslide you give up 2-3 yards. I can see doing that during the regular season but not the playoffs. Meanwhile, Tommy Mellott, the true freshman QB for Montana St., ran like an animal. He's only 6'0 195 but he plays like a fullback, lowering his pads and getting 2-3 ADDITIONAL yards at contact if he goes down at all.

I did like that NDSU took out James Madison. JMU is headed to the FBS along with some others (Sam Houston St., Jacksonville St.) but they aren't leaving as champions. This game will be decided by two schools still committed to FCS football. Roll Bobcats. Roll Tommy.

Aw, geez. I would never take anything away from dem Bizon. It's an incredible run they've had by golly. Criminy it's hard to get kids to want to live up north don't you know. Holy Hanna der's only so much cornhole one can play and how much puppy chow can you eat?
You betcha I too hope they get their buttocks handed to them. Okie Dokie, I spose it's time I sit down to a hotdish. Horns down!

MSU freshman QB gets a seriously twisted ankle on the first drive, in the "injury" tent now. That won't help.

I'm taking special note that one team in the finals started a freshman QB and the other a Soph. And the MSU QB is from that birthplace of dominating QB's Butte, Montana. And the NDSU QB is from that other birthplace of QB's, Solon, Iowa. Nobody brought in from Cal or Florida or Georgia or Texas or some other "better" place.

Seems cloudy in Frisco today, but the temps better than our trip a few years back.

I'm also taking note of the fact that the Bison are playing two QB's, Patterson has 8 rushing attempts, Miller 4 rushes and 9 pass attempts (and I don't now how many total plays either has been in). It can be done.

Yes, it can be done. They run the hell out of the ball and they don't stop. They run great play-action out of the same looks they run out of. They freeze LB's and safeties. They have basic plays out of basic formations. They don't "outcoach" themselves. They don't try to be cute. They're not fancy. They run the same stuff over and over and execute it no matter what's in front of them. They run the A gaps. Double team and slide to the next level. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. The same stuff every day for 5 years. Plug and play. Come stop it.

Like them or not...I don't... it's beautiful to watch and you have to take your hat off to them.

Well that was a bust. Montana St. could have made it interesting if their starting QB hadn't gotten hurt but I think NDSU would have prevailed anyway. Yes, you have to acknowledge their talent and efficiency. The Bison have the occasional stumble during the regular season but they seem to understand what the bright lights of a National Championship game mean and they bring their best.
They play some pretty good ball in the Valley.

Have they ever won a road game in the FCS Playoffs?

Not sure whether you are referring to Montana St. or North Dakota St., but either way the answer is Yes.
In the 2020-21 Spring Season playoffs, NDSU lost in the 2nd round on the road to Sam Houston St. 24-20. You have to go back to 2010 to find the last time NDSU did not play a home game in the playoffs. They won on the road at Montana St 42-17 in round two and lost on the road to eventual National Champion Eastern Washington 38-31.
