The Dakotas are outliers but honestly if I were them and they couldn’t move to an FBS conference, I’d say screw the MVFC and join the Big Sky.

35+ years and I’m ready for the MAC or I can watch from a distance. The lack of aggression or a plan is beyond frustrating. Go Independent in Football and stay in the MVC for Basketball I don’t care. But MoSt. Leadership has seen the MVC as a sinking ship since the other Western members have bailed. Tulsa, Creighton, Wichita.

Might as well move the MVC tournament in hoops to Wintrust because STL will be dead w/o Mo. State. 🤬

Mo State has been in the bottom half of fan turnout for awhile. Early 2010s was the last time they brought a good crowd.

7-8 schools outnumbered them this year.

I posted this in football, but I don't get out any school can afford travel for all their sports.

Start doing some comparisons of finances for athletic departments. Mo state leadership, just like the many recent universities that moved up, did the analysis. FCS football is the worst value proposition in college athletics.
Quinn..you reference expenses regarding the conference change but did not reference the other side of the ledger… ie revenue (as well as national exposure). From what I can’t discern from easily available public athletic department data a move up is a no brainer (esp with better management of Isu athletics from an operating efficiency perspective). Staying in fcs, esp in the spread out mvfc, is hard to understand

MoSU got an anonymous five million dollar donation to defer transition costs. Even their AD has said they are gambling that additional exposure and revenue will keep pace with the increased expenses.

There is no sound reason why any school would want to move up to this particular collection of odds and ends. These are the institutions that were left on the table after the latest round of conference musical chairs (realignment).

What you are rolling the dice on is:
a.) catching the eye of either the American or Mountain West in relatively short order, and
b.) the Atlantic Coast, Big Ten, Big XII, and Southeastern do not break off from the rest of FBS any time in the near future

This is the first school WITH football that has broken away since Tulsa (and even then, they were independent in football). The last program with football that took everything away at the same time is New Mexico State. Creighton, Wichita State, Loyola-Chicago are different storylines.

Uncharted waters.

I think they need to get in a guy or gal who is an alum - look at Illinois - got in an alum and they're doing pretty darn good in all sports - including football where they are no longer the cellar dweller. Baseball near top of Big10 - hoops did great this past year - womens team doing ok.

missouri state press release i read stated expected revenue increase to offset expected expenses increase. it also stated expected travel times to decrese as planes vs buses will be utilized.

last member to leave mvc with football meaningless when you look at profiles of mvc football publics. isu has much larger enrollment, higher academic ranking, spends significantly more on athletics...etc. profiles of uni, siu, indy state, and now murray, likely puts them in an undesirable pot as viewed by fbs conferences>>>can not move up if there is no invitation. also reference ignores recent fcs losses to fbs of james madison, sam houston, delaware, kennesaw state, jacksonville state..etc.

i suggest one analyzes fcs revenue/exposure value vs expenses before stating there is no sound reason any school would want to move up. that unsupported statement contradicts the presidents and staffs at james madison, delaware, sam houston, kennesaw, jacksonville...etc. uncharted waters?...see long list of fcs to fbs

….and it has decimated this athletic department. People don’t want to support an organization that doesn’t want to help itself. This has been a rudderless dept for decades and I’m not sure it’s still salvageable.
I don’t want to support Illinois State at this point. I worked at UIUC can saw first hand how lack of stability at the highest level (Chancellors Office) can impact the rest of the University. Our Musical Presidents and A.D. shuffle has been embarrassing to say the least, and that’s before “BubbleGate” which led to yet another change in the AD and Presidency.

I’d love to think I’m as loyal as they come, but I want MY UNIVERSITY to play at the highest level and against the best competition. But it seems ISU leadership wants to be the band playing as the Titanic sinks! 🤬

Ever since Missouri picked up the Sign Guy in a sweet NIL deal a few years ago, and the Hair Bear Bunch transferred to The Hair Club For Men they've been a shadow of their former selves. Sugar Bears are the only thing keeping them afloat, and I'm currently in discussions to make them an offer. 🤑🤑🤑

Sugar Bears will get even better now, just by the conference jump alone. There is a direct correlation between the chance to play in bowl games + success on the field/floor and talent on the sideline/baseline. See: James Madison and Indiana State. Dunno how that works, but there is some kind of calculus behind it.

Don't know what the MAC will do being at #13. There has been a lot of talk about you guys over the years and think you have a shot. Being from UMass, would favor an old A10 rival with Rhode Island. But they are down and in the cellar of the A10. From a fan, excited to be going into the MAC in 2025.

Finally, Hulka brings some sense to this discussion. As usual. I will never buy another auto part from O’Reilly, as I suspect they were the source of the $5MM.
