It is quite interesting to think about how much this kid's life has changed in a year. I complain about NIL, mainly the effect on school's like ISU...but I can't help but say way to go, 'Tonioooooo.

BTW...who remembers the economics instructor Tony O?!
I remember Tony O. Was a really good friend of mine. Lost contact over the years as I moved away.

I just don't see how they could possibly police Player A at ISU texting Player B at another school. Take that times 8-10 players and everyone they are connected to, I would think the players do quite a bit of recruiting. I could be way off.

I suspect they do. For anything to even be policed and investigated someone has to complain, and very rarely do coaches complain about teams recruiting players off their roster because they are likely doing the same thing and don't want anyone looking too closely.

That said, my guess is players get some coaching in these scenarios of what they can and can't say to friends on social media. For example, a player could say something like "Man I wish we could play together" and be relatively in the clear as opposed to "You should definitely leave ISU and come join me at U of I". @Popsto4 could probably tell us more and the real in and outs of how that all works.

And I doubt they are concerned about ISU.
Haven’t you ever heard the old “NCAA was so mad at Kentucky they threw the book at *insert random smaller program*.” They care only when it helps them.

Can I use this thread to post some "related" coaching news? Coaching "transfers" qualify as "fun" beginning, yes?

Corey Gipson, of our two-time foe Northwestern State, is headed back to his alma mater, Austin Peay. Not sure that's a step up, but whatever, going back to old alma mater is important to some folks.

Gipson, a two-time Austin Peay graduate who played at Austin Peay for two seasons (2002-04) and worked as an assistant coach for Dave Loos for three seasons (2012-15), was the head coach at Northwestern State during the 2022-23 season. In his first year as a head coach, Gipson turned around a Demons program that won nine games the year prior his arrival. He led the Demons to a 22-9 record, a win at then-No. 15 TCU, and a No. 2 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament.

I fear Alma Mater hires, I doubt the success ratio is better than with non alums, but personal recovery is much easier with the non's. Slow bandaid pulls hurt much worse.

I hear Patrick Ewing is available

Never hire the homer or the legend. If it doesn’t work out hard to let them go. I think ISU has some experience with this. Yes there are exceptions to this rule, but my experience hiring lots of people do not hire the homer and or legend. If it doesn’t work ….. well I think you all know.

Will the 3 MSU players and Prim follow him to AP ? It might be harder to have a quick turnaround without that crew.

I would take Haney if he was available
