Saw this on my insta feed. Johnny is a gamer. Admittedly part of me hopes he saves his future breakout performances for next season so we can keep him until at least through his sophomore year. As much as I love the idea of keeping kids for 4 years, the world of NIL changes everything.

While completely unrealistic, part of me hopes that State Farm would wake up and claim their hometown university and throw massive NIL money into the program. With as much as they invest in sports marketing, it would take a fraction of that to claim the university from their hometown (I'm combining Bloomington/Normal). We could become a blue blood practically overnight. I know, it's a fantasy but I still allow myself to admit that hope.

Unfortunately, IWU is more of a State Farm adoptee . . . since the Rusts and Tipsord all graduated from there. That said, John Farney has been promoted to President as Tipsord moves to retire. Farney may or may not be CEO, that’s TBD. But he is a Redbird grad. So . . . .

I'd be all for State Farm rolling out their funding for both IWU and ISU. Both teams are from their hometown. Pre-NIL, this wouldn't have mattered but now, they could make a significant impact. If both programs were blue bloods in their division, it would shine a light on our community and thus, State Farm. It would be a great story. Yes, a fantasy and I'm pretty certain wouldn't happen but I can at least hold out a little hope (with no attachment).

Without a serious NIL budget, we'll always be susceptible to programs with bigger budgets that outbid us. This won't worth with every kid but I'm sure it will for a lot. Last year's first team all MVC all transferred to Big 10 (4) and Big 12 (1).
