I just hope Lee actually replaces him. I think they will, but who knows in today's newspaper world.

Wyatt Wheeler, want to come to Normal? :)

I wouldn't count on it. When Deacon left, we thought there's no way they can get any leaner. Then Sharer left, and thought the same. Then Kindred left, and they had him write columns twice a week, only to cut it to 3 times a month. There's no trend her that suggests we will get a new sportswriter. I hope we do, but I'm not optimistic.

No wonder he's been so fast on the block button. Enjoy retirement. Time for the Vidette to step up their presence. They already do a great job. Physical paper isn't needed these days by most so the audience would find them. Make them The Official News Outlet of Redbird Athletics

Jim....I know you read some or all of this. I wish you the best going forward. Thank you for your hard work over the years. I know it cannot always be easy with the various coaches and their unique personalities. Have fun and enjoy retirement!

"Happy to report this is totally my call." Is a weird line to include in a retirement announcement.

I just think he wanted other newspaper people to know he was stepping away voluntarily and not a forced retirement. Lots of newspaper people being “convinced” to retire these days. Congratulations to him.

I could see that, but an unprompted statement like that often makes me think the opposite. Hopefully not the case.

There is an excellent article in the paragraph dated March 18, from Benson. He talks a lot with coach on the off-season and what is needed.

This is a great article! I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. Almost deserves its own thread but I'll share the link here (since you didn't ;)).

A few highlights from the article:
1. Pedon acknowledged a need to balance the roster with certain types of players that we need to bring in.
2. Joe Petrakis is 100% confirmed to not come back next year
3. Currently the only non-conference games confirmed next year are Eastern Illinois and Northern Kentucky
4. Confirmed Walter Offutt isn't coming back and discussed the search for the new assistant coach

But he didn’t tell us why Offutt left! Worthless article. </sarcasm font>

He did say we need an anchor in the paint which I intetpret as we currently don't have one available on the current team.

I'm excited to host Northern Kentucky. No idea what they'll look like next year, but they gave Houston a run for their money in the round of 64

I enjoyed the article, but I was guessing before I read it that Pedon had/has a grip on what it's gonna take to get things straightened out.

It'll be interesting to see if Offutt turns up somewhere else.

Nothing in the article was new or unknown other than scheduling tidbit.

Offutt will turn up. It just didn’t work out here.
