I would take Oren. He likes Redbird fans and loves D.P. Dough, what better then to come and be with the Redbirds.I just hope Lee actually replaces him. I think they will, but who knows in today's newspaper world.
Wyatt Wheeler, want to come to Normal?![]()
I wouldn't count on it. When Deacon left, we thought there's no way they can get any leaner. Then Sharer left, and thought the same. Then Kindred left, and they had him write columns twice a week, only to cut it to 3 times a month. There's no trend her that suggests we will get a new sportswriter. I hope we do, but I'm not optimistic.I just hope Lee actually replaces him. I think they will, but who knows in today's newspaper world.

No not really. He's speaking of the newspaper business over the last 10 yrs."Happy to report this is totally my call." Is a weird line to include in a retirement announcement.
I just think he wanted other newspaper people to know he was stepping away voluntarily and not a forced retirement. Lots of newspaper people being “convinced” to retire these days. Congratulations to him."Happy to report this is totally my call." Is a weird line to include in a retirement announcement.
There is an excellent article in the paragraph dated March 18, from Benson. He talks a lot with coach on the off-season and what is needed.
But he didn’t tell us why Offutt left! Worthless article. </sarcasm font>This is a great article! I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. Almost deserves its own thread but I'll share the link here (since you didn't).
A few highlights from the article:
1. Pedon acknowledged a need to balance the roster with certain types of players that we need to bring in.
2. Joe Petrakis is 100% confirmed to not come back next year
3. Currently the only non-conference games confirmed next year are Eastern Illinois and Northern Kentucky
4. Confirmed Walter Offutt isn't coming back and discussed the search for the new assistant coach

Ryan Pedon, Illinois State basketball program moving ahead with much to do in spring
Illinois State head basketball coach Ryan Pedon knows spring is no time to slow down with trying to add to the roster, possible transfer portal defections, finding an assistant coach and getting a schedule together in the next 60 days.pantagraph.com
I'm excited to host Northern Kentucky. No idea what they'll look like next year, but they gave Houston a run for their money in the round of 64This is a great article! I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. Almost deserves its own thread but I'll share the link here (since you didn't).

Nothing in the article was new or unknown other than scheduling tidbit.I enjoyed the article, but I was guessing before I read it that Pedon had/has a grip on what it's gonna take to get things straightened out.
It'll be interesting to see if Offutt turns up somewhere else.
