This injury for Jefferson does not appear to be positive news. Not great news on Simon either. If I had to guess they will both be out against SIU (we have a bye week October 9th). Do not want to speculate too much before a diagnostic.

No update was provided on Bones. Maybe this means his injury was nothing to worry about? I believe it was related to his knee.

Tough break for Jefferson and his throwing arm. Going to get a chance to see if Jackson Waring can step up in MVFC play now .. not a fair test of true FR, but here we go ....

Sounds like bad news for Brandon Simon .. he will be missed for sure. Hope to see him back in 3 weekends for our next game.

Reminder - Waring was on campus last fall and played vs Bison last spring. So - altho definitions are challenging these days - not really a "true" freshman. But, agreed, he'll get one huge challenge down at Carbondale. Especially if we have two starters on OL out.

I could be wrong, but I do not believe Peyton Asche will be back this week.

The article talks about the quarterback depth chart.
So our RS SO is injured, and now our QB depth chart is true FR, RS FR, and then true FR. Meaning after Jefferson, our 2 to 4 deep had exactly zero college throws before this season. I know pandemic skews couple of these, but bottom line is game experience at the highest levels of FCS.

We have to do better at this position.

Go Redbirds !!

Yes, we do and Saturday we'll start to see if we have. I'm leaning toward being optimistic about the kid. Nice size. Good arm. And in limited attempts good mechanics. 🤞Can't wait for Saturday! Let the future begin.

He seemed highly recruited by MVFC teams who know good QBs ... SDSU, WIU, UNI .. eh, not so much UNI. Plus Iowa St was high on him for a while.

I like his measurables and pocket presence .. but nut sure his feet have enough quicks for MVFC level defenses. He played at small private HS.

We shall see .. he looks the part for sure with his frame and strength .. watch his feet ... not footwork, but footspeed.

Tough luck for Jefferson. Waring has the talent. Hopefully he can perform well and lead a better offense.

Lead a better OFFENSE ! LOL ! um think its the same OFFENSE... HOPEFULLY THE OC can call a more strategic game of OFFENSE ! QB's can only do what in the game play. They just have to execute what is call upon them to do !

The biggest questions for me. Can we run the ball well enough to keep the defense honest and will we then call enough play-action to give him a chance? I want to see 21 personnel. TE and FB.
Knute Rockne once told me, Tim, what good are 4 receivers if the QB doesn't have time to get to his 2nd read? Smart guy that Rock.

Did you see his feet on that 8-yard TD run? Waring has quicks.
Nope, Ive yet to see a single game due to conflicts.

I'm mainly referring to his HS tape and mentally adjusting for low level of competition he played against. I may be over adjusting. I know he is physically a beast according to his weight room measurables, and I also know he is very athletic. But when you are man among boys playing in a small HS conference, that can sometimes be very misleading ... though obviously not in James Robinson or Anthony Warrum's cases.

Hope your right ... he seems to have a lot of the right tools ... foot quickness is my only real concern, though his tape didn't show a lot of tight spirals .. that can be corrected.

True story. Old John is buried up in Rhinelander. Took me over an hour to find his grave. My wife was not happy.
You have been there and don't know about the Hodag Dome?
Thought for sure you would be bitching about how a High School like them can get a 8+ mil facility and not the old Alma Matre.
