Thoughts on this exchange on Twitter?

Mark Adams:
#DOMOREWITHLESS coaches reportedly are being "begged" to enter MTE's but balked afraid to lose 2-3 games! Who wants in? @DanMuller @PorterMoser @WKUBasketball @HerdMBB @bobbymarlin @RobEhsan @CoachJake_UNI @CoachLansing @KampeOU @CoachBHinson @RacersHoops @BelmontMBB @nate_oats

Jay Bilas:
I have. I heard an entire room full of mid-major coaches be begged to play in neutral events, but they balked so as to avoid losing two or three games. Those coaches want to keep their jobs. I liked MTSU and WKU this year, but I liked Penn State just as much. Tough calls.

I didn' t see this exchange on that thread. I thought the comment by Bilas saying he heard "mid-major coahes being begged to play in neautral events, but they balked....." was new material, nevermind.

Good for Mark Adams - Bilas is just showing he is isolated from anything outside of the so-called, and self-proclaimed "Power" Conferences.

What a lot of these folks fail to realize - just because a school has better athletes, does not mean that translates to better basketball players, better mental discipline, or better team play. So they fabricate the "eye" test - all that has proven is they need a different optometrist or ophthalmologist.

Bilas had a lot of push back yesterday from his comments, and not just one-offs... people brought facts to him and he continually got things wrong.

When the head coach of a school calls you out on scores because you're misrepresenting them on social media to a national audience, you should probably slow down in whatever you're doing. But that's not the Bilas way. He kept on banging the drum for the P5 last night... which was foolish.

Give him credit for engaging with the audience, though.

I always have. He's usually pretty good about having a 3-4 tweet discussion with anyone who chats him up. But he's a complete homer for the P5s.

Maybe I am way "off the beam" here but the reason I posted this is because I find it very hard to believe that Jay Bilas was in a "room full of mid-major coaches who were being BEGGED to enter tournaments on neutral courts, but they BALKED because they didn't want to lose 2-3 games". I thought most mid-major programs were thrilled to get these teams on neutral courts? I know ISU seeks out these venues. Where was this "room" and the event that Bilas is talking about? I am calling BS on this, not believable...

What really doesn't make sense is the idea that mid-major coaches would avoid such games out of fear of adding two or three more losses to their record. Considering how everyone knows the only way to get an at-large berth out of the selection committee these days, short of having a record of something like 33-1, is to play and win such games, my guess is only coaches who are already on the hot seat for being fired and are not overly optimistic about the odds for their teams' near future successes would be doing what they could to avoid two or three more losses in a given season. In fact, just the opposite might be true. Play a few neutral site games against quality opponents and lose all of them might show that at least you have the juevos to play such a schedule and might, just might, be one debate point to make for buying you one more year of leniency from your A.D./alumni/donors before being slipped the axe.

Power 5 budgets must have paid for all of their travel and hotels for two years (but then bought them out of the 2nd year). 😎

Bilas only thinks the Duke/UNC/Kentucky types are deserving “major” schools. So, his comment makes sense if you realize that Jay Bills considers mid majors to be Penn St, Illinois, Nebraska, Vandy, K State, Baylor, most of the PAC 12, etc.

It’s true...a room full of coaches of those schools would be afraid to schedule neutral site games and lose...
