I finally heard "Illinois State" a couple times this game.

Sidenote: Robinson may have fundamentally changed the way people look at running backs in the NFL. Zeke Elliott is making $90M over the next 6 years. James Robinson is making 2.7M over the next 3. Robinson has probably already done enough to get people to realize that the name on the front of the jersey really does not matter to the bellcow RB role. I'm thinking Robinson may have supercharged the already existing trend where running backs in general are drafted no higher than the 2nd or 3rd rd. If cash strapped teams have proof that there is gold in the small schools even more than they had before, James Robinson may have just opened NFL opportunities to dozens of FCS players that would have otherwise been ignored because they don't play in the SEC or Big Ten. Further, he may have wounded the prospects (and paychecks) of RBs from top end programs like Bama and Ohio State.

Remember how his draft sheet said he'd fall because he didn't have break away speed? Anthony McFarland Jr from Maryland ran a 4.44 and has 92 yards from scrimmage this year. James ran a 4.64 and has over 900.

Speed no longer matters to the running game.

It was obvious to me that JR could play on Sunday. It was also obvious to me that he wouldn't get drafted because of that 40 time. Over 40 yards the difference between a 4.4 and a 4.6 is about 2 yards. That's a pretty big difference for a receiver. That's the difference between a 6-inch window and a 6-foot window 40 yards downfield. A good route runner can make up for that, but it's a big difference.
Running back is different. Vision, quickness, power, and patience all matter more. But I'll maintain being a free agent may have worked to JR's advantage. He landed in the right spot at the right time and that's great. To see the field it was better to be a free agent in Jacksonville than say a Vikings 7th rounder.

You'd think he'd have all kinds of incentives in his contract. Like getting paid more for starting games, and reaching 1,000 yards. Hopefully he'll be set for life after this season. It's not his fault he got drafted so low. He should cash in.

I suspect James Robinson has locked himself in as at least a 2 year starter in Jacksonville, at which point they will have to decide to pay him or trade him. But if this guy makes the pro-bowl (and that is looking probable), he is going to command at least $4.5M a season, which will indeed set him up for life.

I hope he has more longevity that LRob after he got paid, though.

Here's what the Steeler's coach says about JR who they play this weekend..

"I cannot say enough about [Robinson] and the respect I have for what he's done," Tomlin said. "I read something this morning where he's run for more yards than any undrafted rookie in the history of our game to this point in his rookie season. That says it all.

"Beyond that, his style of play is impressive. He's a deliberate, one-cut guy, he's down the field, he's quick to holes. He's got good vision. He finishes off runs extremely well with great pad level. Just stories like James Robinson, those of us who are football people, we have a lot of appreciation for that. ... We acknowledge it as a big-time challenge this week."

ok, finally getting some pub. Next we start working on the PA guys calling first downs when JR gets them ... "and thats another Redbird .... FIRST DOWN !!!!!!!"

Again, not hard.

and, his weekly highlight reel. The consistency is amazing for a rookie on a bad team.

I once said, it would be bad if JR wound up on Chicago .. bad as our OL, offense, and run game is. Starting to think he'd have done ok, as bad as things are on Bears offense.

It's not like the Jags O-Line is anything special. Far as I know. But the Bears is really bad!

Their QB's aren't so great either. Can you imagine what he'd do if the other team had to fear their passing attack? The more I see him play in the NFL the more I realize how lucky we were to have him for four years.

Jags getting kicked in the groin by the Steelers, but JRob doing pretty well, at the end of the 3rd Q - 72 yds on 16 carries, 1 catch for 15 yds. Lots of nice comments from announcers, even mentioned Coach Spack!

Didn't see much action in the 4th Q, empty backfield or "3rd down backs" playing. Ended up with 73 yds. on 17 carries, 2 catches for 21 yds.

Watching Jake Luton play QB makes me straight up angry that Tre Roberson had to play cornerback in Canada. He would be BY FAR the best QB on that team.

I love the passion but no way! Tre could not make the type of throws required of an NFL QB. I really hope he gets healthy because I would love to see him get the chance on an NFL roster. That being said has anyone heard how he is doing with his injury/rehab?

He shows up on the Bears' roster as a "Reserve/non-football injury", so he may still be with the Bears?? Hope so.

I didn't know that. That means he's rehabbing under their care. That's a really good thing.
I also didn't know, but looked it up while we were discussing. Does seem like a good thing. They gave him a nice 2 year contract when he signed, and kept him around after his injury, you would think someone somewhere sees something they like.

There is a league wide bonus structure for rookies based on play. James will get a mid 6 figure performance bonus this off season based on his production. playing in no state tax Fla doesn’t hurt. I hope James has a great career and achieves generational financial security.

Agreed .. Tre wouldn't be in NFL if he played QB in CFL.
