he had no FBS offers and not many good FCS offers.

His problem was playing 4A in HS and he also admitted in recent interview that he didn't do any camps or combines to gain more attention from colleges. The other thing I recall was his conditioning coming out of HS ... he got here a little overweight. So I agree he has been an underdog, but there were reasons ... and to ISU's benefit !!!! And now to Jaguars !!

According to 247 and Rivals he had 2 offers, one from ISU and one from Iowa.

Here it is

thanks for finding and posting. That was very impressive, the hurdle over one guy and then shedding the tackle while keeping his footing was also amazing. .. dude is going to get a rep doing stuff like this.

Here are full game highlights:

showed 5 runs from early in game, then the catch/run/hurdle starts at 9:08 mark .. very nice game for james !!!

I don't think the Iowa offer stuck, I'm pretty sure the story was that he had no FBS offers .. maybe that's wrong. What's amazing is no G5 offers either.

If he can pick up blitzes and catch the ball then he'll have a career in the NFL. He's probably pretty good on short yardage situations as well. I'm thinking he'll keep on getting better, given the huge leap from FCS to NFL. Sucks that he didn't get drafted, but I hope he's got some incentives that will pay off. Can't fault the Jags, they got him and didn't have to burn a draft choice. They probably had a good feeling he wouldn't get drafted, etc. But yeah, they aren't a very well run franchise either...

I watched a 10 min highlight reel of the game (so I didn't see the whole game), but it did show several pass play highlights ... and we knew this already, but he pass blocked really well on those highlight plays .. completely helld his ground and did his job. We'll see about pass catching, that 28 yarder, which was about 30 yards after catch, was an impressive start for sure.

Robinson always reminded me a little bit of Walter Payton. I found a 40 yard dash time listed for Payton of 4.5. Maybe accurate and maybe not. It was likely done with a stopwatch back them. Robinson's 40 yard dash time at the combine was 4.64. In the 40 yard dash, a .14 seconds difference is a factor to consider. Payton was not ever the big breakaway threat and he was caught from behind not all that infrequently. But they both have a combination of power and enough speed to make them dangerous. They both use their blockers well and have that feel for where the hole is. To me, Payton's greatness was in being an all-around football player. Running, receiving, blocking, short yardage, goal line whatever it did not matter. I watch JR on the highlights and he blocked well and he showed an ability to catch the ball both yesterday and in the All-Star game. I am not saying he will be Walter but he is that type of player that plays bigger than his stats. He was not heavily recruited out of college (good for ISU fans) and the NFL did not show a lot of interest but there he was on opening day in the starting lineup. I am pulling for him to have a great year.

I'll be honest I watched every snap of the Jacksonville gameand they did not look like a team tanking. Both the ISU kids played great but what I thought was most impressive was the blocking from both. Robinson picked up every blitz and had key blocks on all the TD passing plays. Many times you hear that blocking assingments is why young RBs can't get on the field. I have already ordered my Robinson Jersey hopefully it will be in by next week.

It will be ineresting to see how his body holds up playing an NFL schedule.

I think I might get me a Jags Robinson jersey too!

When JR was part of our recruiting class I remember watching all the videos of our recruits. In the videos he looked fantastic, and I kept wondering how we got him, and I'm not somebody with an eye for talent. He just seemed so obviously good. Brock went down the list of each recruit and whether he had a chance to play as a true freshman. For JR he said he "might" play. I was surprised he said that. I thought for sure he would, and of course things worked out for JR to play a major role.

We're just very good at finding and developing HS RBs, then having it all come together in our run game.

If I had to score our ability to above at RB vs QB ... I would give us a 9 or 10 at RB and maybe a 4 or 5 at QB.

Spack's staff saw his ability and turned him into a D-I RB, who could have played P5 FBS by his junior season. He always had the ability and size, but needed some conditioning and legit defenses to push him higher. Hard to get challenged like that playing 4A high school football .. which must have turned off D-I colleges, he was "largely unproven" in their eyes .... because it sure wasn't his stats or highlight reel that turned them off.

Same happened to Marshaun Coprich .. at the time, Spack said he couldn't believe they got him .. partly being from CA, but also because of his talent level. And it sure seems like we've always had a nice stable of young RBs coming in since Coprich .. we'll see who shines from current group.

That is an awesome collection of cards Retire 12! I also collect and am extremely impressed with you going all-in on JR. I love to speculate with cards and am kicking myself for not buying more JR cards now.
Thanks! I've listed a few on ebay, and already sold one for $100 that I originally picked up for $12.

I wont move them all, but I'd be a fool to not ride this wave. Move enough and I'll keep the superfractor 1/1 of course. But I've listed it too ;)

Would love to see Jag’s move to St Louis!

Good point ... tanking was probably wrong way to put it. Going young and willing to take some losses if needed.

Not watching as close as I did last week, but JRob just scored his first TD about halfway thru the 3rd quarter, on very nice run. 11 carries for 46 yards so far (altho I thought he had more).

39 yard run up the middle on a draw, following a very slick 5 yd pass reception over the middle. Announcers giving lots of love.
