Holy Birdsh-t !! He is listed #1 on their depth chart after releasing Leonard Fournette .. Fournette wasted no time ripping all of his former offenses, say he finally has a QB for first time in his life ... nice start for him !

Back to James Robinson .. he is undrafted and now listed #1. Congrats to James, this is amazing .... but doesn't say a lot for the Jaguar RB group with Fournette gone .. who was hi backup last year ? Annd why didn't they draft or sign someone if he was going to be moved.

Best of luck to James !!!!!!

Note another Redbird ... 2nd tring TE James Oshaughnessy ... just a great young man who will no doubt make James feel right at home. Both easy going good guys and great Redbird talents !

sorry about format below ... but Go Redbirds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of you know I'm also a follower and season ticket holder at DIII Minnesota St. John's U. The backup guard listed above, Ben Bartch, is a rookie from St. John's. Yes, from DIII. Showed very well at the Senior Bowl last year and got himself drafted in the 4th round. 6'7, 300 lbs. Mrs. MadBird and I are now big J'Ville fans!!

That is an awesome collection of cards Retire 12! I also collect and am extremely impressed with you going all-in on JR. I love to speculate with cards and am kicking myself for not buying more JR cards now.

I forgot that this wasn't a pre-season game. Hope James can bust a couple long runs. Impressive. UFA to starter in one training camp. I kinda was wondering how a team didn't draft him.

I really have little interest in the NFL anymore but I would have liked to tune in only to watch JR in his first start. Unfortunately, the listings down here do not include the Jacksonville game. We always get that team in Washington and for some reason, the Steelers are always one of the teams broadcast here in SE Virginia. No idea why the constant presence of Pittsburgh in this area but they are on almost every single week. We get a lot of the Eagles and Giants as well being on the east coast. The other team on almost every week is the damn Cowboys. I guess the network still believes they are America's team. Going back to the '70s, the only reason I could ever think of to watch the damn Cowboys was for the Cheerleaders. Politically incorrect but I really don't care. Still, the only reason to tune in to them to this day. Good luck to JR and the other Redbirds in the NFL.

I lost interest in the NFL a few years back. Go to a game in person and you really get a feel of how commercialized the game has become. I froze my butt off at a Bear's game. Seems like half the time you're just watching players stand around waiting for the TV timeout to end. Then you go, geez, I spent 100+ bucks, spent hours driving, paid out my ass for parking when I could've just stayed at home and flipped channels. I'd rather just walk over to Hancock and see my football there.

A friend just picked up JR for his fantasy team. A great sleeper pick. Let's see if he can shine. That should help ISU recruiting efforts. Get guys those guys that could go to a bigger school. They can play earlier and maybe make the pros. Anybody think JR would be playing in the NFL if he went to Iowa instead? Something to think about. But if you shine at ISU that means something.

Always enjoy following "our guys" in pro sports, will especially enjoy if JR comes through decently. And I include all MVFC guys too, think over the years about some of the guys we've seen at Hancock.

Other than following Bears, White Sox and Bulls, I have lost interest in all pro sports (not a hockey fan, so never really "lost" interest, never really had it). I have a huge problem with paying people millions and millions and millions of dollars to play sports, have a huge problem "investing" in that sort of thing with buying tickets, beverages, parking (as JHBird points out) and all of it. Take the NBA especially as the worst example, who the eff are these guys? Bunch of 20 year olds, never learned the game, guys you never heard of, etc. etc. (get off my lawn). Feel the same about NASCAR - bunch of 20 year olds crashing out while they learn to race.

Very cool positive story from Jaguars web site on James today:

Friday Update: Low-key, quiet Robinson ready for NFL debut

Gruden on Thursday praised Robinson's ability as a receiver and in blitz pickup – two elements key for a running back transitioning from college to the NFL. "We'll see how he does, but we have every indication that we've seen in training camp that he can handle it," Gruden said. "He can handle the workload. He's tough. He's strong. He's got great vision. He can explode through holes. We've been impressed with him."

Mentions several times how focused and "all business" he is. Let's hope he's able to deliver.

And Halftime at Hancock is much better than a Bears game. It's a boring bunch of dead air. Going back now to the 60's, the NFL had halftime entertainment, Bands & Cheerleaders, and shown on TV. Now it's just the suits talking, giving us their political lecture........

Regarding the NBA; I remember Mike Greenberg grew up being a Knicks fan, so he was elated when he became their beat reporter. He now wouldn't recommend anybody being a beat reporter for their favorite pro team. After a loss he'd be in the locker room and was shocked at how little they cared. Broke his heart! That's the way I feel about pro sports. They get paid millions and hardly even care. You watch our FCS football team and they play like they're being paid a million bucks. I remember walking by Hancock on some really cold days and see the football team out their practicing, and could only be amazed with their dedication, especially the kids that aren't even getting into the games, maybe not even on scholarship. You got respect that!

I just saw an interview of Robinson, and they asked who else he got calls from after the draft. He said only the 49ers had called, along with Jacksonville, and Jacksonville were looking at him hard in late rounds, but obviously passed on him.

Obviously, his forty time (4.64 and 4.68) had to have been huge concern for NFL scouts, because he showed very well at east-west shrine (practive week and game) and combine (drills and events, except forty).

Question ... is there any way this has ever happened before ... that an UDFA RB winds up starting in week 1 ? Or any position for that matter.

And I have to say, what does it say for both Robinson and the Jaguars, that they were actively trying to trade their high maintenance stud RB, and ultimately end up getting nothing and releasing him anyway (after the draft). They had 12 picks in 7 rounds, and didn't take a single RB .. even though they were clearly trying to move on without Fournette.

So they must have been very happy with their RB group pre-Robinson signing. Then they take a chance Robinson won't get picked, and take further chance he won't sign as UDFA elsewhere. Then they sign him, and now he is their starter after abbreviated camp and no preseason games.

The whole situation is just highly improbable (props to Robinson), and also highly questionable .. as in what the heck were the Jaguars thinking ?? Robinson's now RB coach was on the phone with JR during the draft .. telling JR that he was pushing hard for JR to be drafter in 5th-7th rounds .... yet they didn't draft him and in fact, drafted no RBs.

Great for JR that he was able to move up their depth chart so fast. But what's up with the Jaguars, other than the RB coach who was pushing for him hard with the Jaguars brass. Then they get nothing for Fournette. Just very odd ... but great for JR other than they got him for the minimum when they should have drafted him.

Not that JR needed motivation, but not getting drafted and playing for minimum should give him some extra motivation.

Some say Jags are tanking this year. Regardless, good for James. Hope they don't run him in the ground. No Central Arkansas in NFL.

Jacksonville has not been a stellar franchise in the NFL. They played the Patriots in the AFC Championship a few years ago and the plummeted the following year. They released their starting QB from that championship game and paid a huge amount of money for the Bears current backup QB, Foles. They ended up offloading Foles after the season. The Jags defense in the 2018 Championship game was one of the best in the league and they now have two starters from that unit. That is only two years ago. This is no hit on JR but the personnel management and coaching for the Jags is and has been questionable at the very best.

Agree Jags must be tanking. They stock piled picks for this year, and dumped Fournette for nothing. So theyre playing for high picks next year too. Then try to build on 2020 and 2021 drafts for 2022.

I doubt they will run him into ground. They must have felt ok about their RB group and the talk is they will do RB by committee. Which will be perfect for JR's development. I'm not sure he is ready to be a full time #1 at this point. He may not prove to be a #1 at all, but I like his chances to carve out a role as a very solid NFL back. We'll see how soon and how well he adjusts to speed and size at next level. He certaonly saw good size playing in practice at ISU .. but he didn't see NFL speed and ability .. not against ISUr, NDSU, or UNI.

I like his chances of continuing to impress, just not expecting great things early on, esp given Jags are rebuilding. I would love to be dead wrong on that point.

Good start for Robinson. Penalty killed the first drive, but JR looked just as productive as we've seen.

I'm watching on NFL Sunday Ticket and JRob started off on fire - ran for two first downs on first two chances, prolly has 20 yards carrying during first series. And an 11 yard gain called back due to penalty. Already showed his "story" as he was introduced. So far so good.
