Good for the Ivy league. Going to pick up spots again after Jan 1, right in the middle of Flu season, H1N1, and Covid 19. Sounds real smart to me.

That's not really what they said, starting up after Jan. 1 - they just made a decision on fall sports and will decide on Spring later.

A decision on the remaining winter and spring sports competition calendar, and on whether fall sport competition would be feasible in the spring, will be determined at a later date.

Couple more season cancellations - FCS Patriot League, Hampton U, FCS member of Big South

Hampton (FCS – VA):
Hampton has announced it will not compete in athletics this fall. A Big South member, the Pirates are the first Division I school outside of the Ivy or Patriot Leagues to withdraw from competition.

only chance for fall football are those that can survive on TV revenue .... that said, P5 is only chance of any fall football IMO, and their chances are declining every week. FCS and some G5 Conferences are dropping one by one, and covid case counts continue to climb .. significantly in 15 to 20 states, and less severe in another 20-25 states. Very few states are declining any more. What happens when normal flu hits on top of covid .... hospital capacity, hell, testing capacity .. both are already in trouble in much of country .. and its mid July.

I came down with symptoms on July 5th and got tested on July 7th at a CVS .. still no results on July 18th .. my symptoms are gone already, my quarantine ends on Sunday .. and I still have no results in a state (IL) that is doing ok at this point. Im just about recovered and didn't have it too bad. But imagine those that really struggle with this. And imagine the backlog of tests in states like FL, TX, AZ, southern CA right now. Point is .. what good is getting tested, if results take longer than most people's quarantine .. assuming they even quarantined .. and how much that could contribute to further spread because test results take 10+ days in some areas.

Best chance at this point is a vaccine. In meantime .. wear a mask whenever in public near anyone, wash hands/face a lot, and social distance. There are laws requiring us to wear seatbelts, bike helmets, traffic laws requiring us to drive on right side of road and obey traffic lights and signs .. all designed to protect people from harming themselves and especially others. Mask requirements are no different in middle of pandemic like this ... worst ever for U.S.

Remember the panic over Ebola coming out of Africa in 2014 ... U.S. had just 4 cases and 1 death: 1 case was an individual who traveled to US from Liberia, 2 more were the healthcare professionals who took care of that patient. Then we had 1 other case.

As for Covid ... we have less than 5% of world population, and nearly 25% of cases and deaths. Even ignoring the BS numbers coming out of China and Russia, we are so far off the curve compared to rest of world. Why ? Because we argue whether it is happening, to say nothing about all the arguing over what should be done about it. Fighting over this reality is just plain stupid and we're up to 140k dead.

Last point .. from May 1st to June 15th, we bounced between 60-80 cases per Million, while we were increasing testing .. meaning our positivity rate was declining .. a very good thing, if it continued. Since June 15th, it has been climbing from that 60-80, and has been over 200 cases per Million 5 times in the last week. So we are now triple the case count from just over 1 month ago.

What happened ? Yes, we tested more, but too many states also opened up with minimal or no restrictions, or no enforcement. And now our positivity rate has been increasing the last 2-3 weeks, even with all the additional testing. Meaning, cases are now increasing by more than testing, a very bad thing sitting here in mid July. And as I mentioned earlier, getting test results back are slowing down considerably ... this fact also leads to more spread.

Sorry for rant, but this sh-t is very real and serious.

Fourth, the you-cant-make-me-wear-a-mask dip shits should be apologizing. What little chance we had at playing football went swirling around the bowl with their me-first attitude.

Yep. And just to compare the increase in testing to cases, from mid June until mid July. It was right around 1.5 tests per 1000 each day in mid June, now it is around 2.25 tests per 1000 .. so 1.5x higher, which is 50% higher daily testing in last 30 days. And per chart in my last post, the case counts per Million are now 3.0x higher since Mid June, which makes it 200% higher than a month ago when things really started to slip. So new case counts are 200% higher, while test counts are only 50% higher since mid June.

I tested Tuesday at a busy state funded site and got my results today. Just about exactly 96 hour turnaround. Staff were pleasant, even though they were outside all day on a concrete parking lot. Only downside is that so many were testing that the line took almost 2 hours.

Now that's not perfect, but it worked as promised.
