OK, time to put the last one behind and take a look at last ISU/LOY game and talk about what we might expect or hope for
below is +/- analytics on game #1. What stands out to me in this game is that Hillsman played only 4 minutes
in the #3 spot and Fisher didn't play at all in the #4 spot. All Fisher's minutes were as #5 and they played Chastain and Hillman
interchangeably in the #4 spot-so 2 stretch 3s playing the four spot the entire night. Based on analytics, the redbirds were basically the same with Chastain in the game (.-22/min) compared to Hillsman(-.23/min).

My thoughts- at this point with the loss of Chastain & Boyd, and looking like Ndiaye was much more successful against Kruitwig than Rey, the Birds should start Abdou, Fisher, Hillsman, Copeland and Horne, as they have last few games and then try and stay with the Fisher/Bruninga in the #4 and Ndiaye/Idowu in the #5 and rotate guards in the #1-#3 spots. Challenge is who guards Hall when Copeland is out?

1st Half 2nd Half Total total min
Player +/- +/-
Ndiaye 5 -1 4 12
Hillsman 0 -6 -6 27
Idowu -9 na -9 8
Chastain -6 2 -4 17

I can't make this game which means ISU will play good but not good enough. Ramblers 67 Birds 60

Think it’s only the 3rd time I won’t be going to Loyola since the ”Nedu Onyeuku” R.I.P. game in 2004.

I'm feeling we might have a bit of a problem with this one.

Loyola-a lot of points.

Us-not quite as many.

Not much activity here. Disappointed with the defensive preparation. Loyola was getting layups for the first 10 minutes. And please get Abdou away from Krutwig.

Halftime lead on the road. Wonder what the message will be in the locker room? Can Dan and the Birds finish this one?

Weakest FI hook seen this year. Hillsman not ready to play. At least 4 back doors. Freshman will have to carry this team to the win tonight.

Zone with Taylor and Rey took Ramblers out of flow. The zone covered the base line and kick backs on the wing pretty well. Credit to staff for utilizing that. Can they stay in that with Ndiaye/Fisher in the game? What will Porter do to attempt and adjust?

On offense, really got better looks with Rey in, as they collapse and the 3 opens up once ball goes to paint. Wish he’d make a couple of those close in. I think Birds will need to drive the second half, as Porter will have them extending against 3.

Let’s go Birds, games still to win.

In Normal, we allow Hall to go off for 17. Guess we have forgotten about it... he scored 28 tonight.

Loyola 10/14 from 3 second half. Hell most folks can’t shoot threes that well in a game of horse. They weren’t all open looks either. Too little too late but nice to see Taylor making a contribution. He battled hard. Team played hard. In some ways this team is snakebit. Something different bites them every night. Our two freshman guards continue to improve. I really think they will be a handful in coming seasons. Not digging on Dan either. He made some coaching moves tonight. The zone got us back in the game and made a difference for awhile. We simply are not good enough.
