This is all so completely unprecedented. I have no issue with Spack doing this. It did surprise me a bit that Spack pulled plug, but I completely get it. The results from this season are always going to be with an asterisk or 10. This was forced from the git go, especially with inadequate facilities to properly prepare for season (some have indoor, some don't). But even worse is how this will impact next fall. We did take a lot of hits on defense in one form or another .. FBS transfers, NFL prep, graduation on time, injuries. The only thing I liked about doing this spring was that it would have helped get our very young offense soe much needed game experience ... but burning their eligibility at same time for a "partial" season that will have other teams doing what Spack just did as season progresses.

Solid decision .. not an easy one. I'm already over it - this season didn't feel like a regular regular season to me anyways.
Season did not account against eligibility even the FBS/FCS schools who played in the fall all kids get a extra year if they choose. NCAA votes to give extra year to D-I fall athletes

Lol. When was the last time we were in the bottom of the conference for a prolonged period?

This post is a ridiculous overreaction.
Amen. Youngstown played for the national championship for the 2016 season (more recently than us!!). We're not gonna fall far or for long.

I just think we need to destroy that Brock video clip of "anyplace, anywhere, anytime". I admit I liked it at the time...

I wonder if they'll be trying to get a transfer QB? Bench players looking for playing time somewhere else might find this a good place to take a chance on. We have a track record there as well.

I'm in agreement with those who aren't upset with this decision. Injuries to some key guys as well as seeing that they may not be comfortable with the QB position, there are more beneficial ways to spend the rest of the spring and turn the focus to the fall.

Losing the first couple games pretty much destroyed any Playoff chances with the lesser field. Nothing to gain. Get healthy and move on.

Let me start by saying I hope - and believe - that Spack didn't make this decision on his own without consulting the team. Not that he'd "put it up for a vote" or anything like that, but I hope he had at least some buy in from the players so that for the most part they didn't feel "cheated".

A lot of effort was put into playing this spring season - the cold February practices, the virus protocols, all of the staff in many capacities who worked to pull it off (ie. not just football staff but ticket office, security, vending, parking, etc.), the players of course and coaches. If Spack felt like they had to pull the plug, you have to believe there is some good reason.

That being said, I think we get a black eye as a conference member - puts our schools in a jam, in a way. Hopefully nobody's chances at the post-season get affected by us dropping out at this point.

Meanwhile, the Dakotas will play 3-5 more games. Get better. Get exposure. Continue to Widened the gap. While we watch. Get ready to be in the bottom of this conference with WIU and YSU for a long time.
Dumb post of the day goes to you!

NCAA ruling on 1x tranfer play without sitting will be vote on May 1st .. Lets see who moves ! I would say at least 4 players will move on...
If that passes it will be like the wild west. Kids will be moving like crazy. I'm thinking we will see that number in the high teens low 20s.

Don’t think it will be high teens but low teens. Portal is full now because they announce they would vote in January kept changing date. With the extra year for present players on teams that created a problem for HS kids. Which now schools shoppers in portal for college kids who are develop via college level or juco . FBS school basically giving out 10 Hs scholarship and 15 transfers and portal. Some schools portal will work if coaches know how to develop team chemistry with present players. Just do what Nick Sabn does forget transfers. And develop talent he recruited. At smaller schools kids are not going to sit for 3years doing nothing because a coach does not utilize the kids talent just practicing and not in a game setting even if it’s only 4-6 plays that kid will stay loyal knowing he will eventually get more pt early than his Sr or middle of his JR year. Different era ! Got to be adaptable!

yeah, as much as i never liked the idea of spring season, nor can I disagree with his decision to opt out of this spring season ... that hype video did not age well at all.

But I get his distinction .. MoST was ready to play. Weather was certainly not a factor. And field condition should not have been a factor at all .. Hancock was cleared, and we had it colder and snowier.

But now he's thinking, this spring season is putting his fall season at risk. I get this, sitting 1-3 in a season that will go down with one big fat asterisk. Why would anyone want to keep playing these less meaningful games and watching players nurse and get injuries. He also may be hearing rumblings of other teams, so he's reading writing on wall. And no one will officially crown whoever wins the Natty .. it will always be known as the pandemic shortened season with less teams and games.

But they'll need to delete all know copies of this video .. then get one of these ...

My first reaction is I'm stunned - hard for me to see Coach Spack "back down". If they're having games, Spack shows up. Right?
That said, there must be some serious problems if he's willing to pull the plug.

I didn't see anyone on the DL, altho Jeremiah Jordan played quite a bit in the 4th Q - would that be for Dinga? Or Zeke? Also, Nigel White came up lame late in the game. Those were the only things I saw from behind the bench that might be clues.

Simplifies my spring, that's for sure. Was saying to Mrs. MadBird on the way home yesterday, how different it is/was driving home yesterday vs. October or November. In the fall, you're driving home usually in the dark, or by Mendota or so in the dark. Watching the harvest. Yesterday, nothing in the fields, some disked already. Sunny all the way home. Just weird.

Let's get ready for fall.

This ... as I said earlier, I was over this decision within 30 seconds.

Surprised ? Very, only because it's Spack. Disappointed ? Not very.

It is logical thing to do. Now, we have our marching orders from Mad ... Let's get ready for fall.

It will be interesting to hear the Brock Spack show Thursday; I'm sure we'll learn more.

I'm disappointed, but understand if the fall season was being jeopardized. Booked accommodations in Kalamazoo Sep 10-12. This ISU season was beginning to feel like my brackets anyway...

I was surprised but not disappointed at all when Coach Spack pulled the plug on the season. After a poor start the only thing this spring season was going to be good for was giving experienced players game-time experience. Some got that but injuries were beginning to build (does anyone know how badly White was hurt?). I wish some of the backup QBs had got more playing time since they will not in the fall. If Jefferson goes down there is no game experience behind him. I expect some other FCS teams will do the same over the next few weeks. Focus on the fall!

Spack is getting shredded some on AGS for decision. They dug up "any body, any where, any time" hype video and had some fun poking at that.

They're not wrong .. at all .. but I still agree with Spack decision. There should never have been a spring season to begin with.

Starts on page 66 .. up to page 72

I don't blame him for the decision, but that video turned out to be absolutely stupid. Most of those fans hate ISU anyway, so they'll take a shot whenever they can. Whatever.

I think All 0-4, 1-4 Schools should quit (I mean opt out). Can’t win, so why play. Maybe all of the Illinois High Schools that start out 0-3 should opt out!!!
