ISU Commit in Wisconsin Final Four

Our recruit/commit Abbie Aalsma is leading Waupun into the Division 3 final four tomorrow in Wisconsin (there are 5 divisions). #1 seed, 25-3 record. Abbie plays for her dad, and has a twin and also a younger sister on the team. I like their chances.

Ms. Aalsma and her family and teammates from Waupun HS came through and won the state championship with a good margin, 63-42. While I thought she didn't look all that impressive in the semi-final, she looked very good in the big game and led the scoring with 22 points. She's not that physically imposing, about 5'9 but rather thin, but plays all over the place. I can see her fitting the profile of a Coach G wing - she shoots the 3, takes it to the rack, plays good D, passes the ball well. Nice all-around player. ISU was mentioned several times during the tournament by the announcers.

I'm a week or so late bringing this news - commit Abbie Aalsma from Waupun, Wisconsin, state Champion, was named to the 10-member Division 3 all-state team by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association. Two other girls from Waupun, a soph point guard who would look good in red and white, and another soph who is already on P5 radar screens, also made the team. 3 girls from one school on the 10 member all-state team!

Another late update -- Ms. Aalsma was named to the 5 member AP all-state girls first team. This team includes girls from all 5 classes, so she was top five including the girls from the largest schools.
