I have mixed feelings about this. I understand why they feel the need to do this, but I agree with the concerns that some board members brought up about affordability. Especially since one of the goals of the new college of engineering was to support underrepresented groups.

I would like for ISU to add more international/out of state students. I don't want to remove current opportunities for in state students, but increasing enrollment could provide a financial boost so what they're doing now isn't necessary.

I like this move. Given that state of Illinois funding as a percentage of total tuition costs has decreased significantly overtime (state paid 72% of tuition costs in 2002 vs only around 35% of tuition costs now) why should some students subsidize the costs for other students higher major costs? If a student is selecting a major that is more expensive to administer than other MAJORS then they should pay the costs…NOT THE LOWER MAJOR COST STUDENTS!

as an aside, I find this to be a significant decision for ISU. What is interesting is that this decision was made while ISU has an interim President all the while the notion is that ISU will not hire an AD until a permanent President is hired. This tuition strategy decision seems much more significant, IMO.

Well it's not the presidents decision to make so maybe that is why?

And while I agree with the premise that why should other students pay for it, the other side is why should I have to have more money just to pursue a degree that I want to pursue? It's not my fault it costs you more.
