22-18 with 11 abstaining (all of which were students who want the graduate assistants issue resolved first) . . . It'll pass.

I sure hope so. This and a law school (regardless of how oversaturated law schools and students may be) are on the top of my academic wish-list for ISU.

Ludicrous that any votes were against it. An engineering curriculum brings recognition to a school and provides good jobs to its graduates. I spent 40 years with a Fortune 50 employer and saw and worked with multiple engineering graduates from U of I, Bradley, SIU Carbondale,, Missouri Rolla, the South Dakota School of Mines, Colorado School of Mines, Purdue, Iowa State, etc. The abstentions because of the grad assistant issue are senseless. And, we missed our chance at a law school back in the 70s when SIU opened theirs and then Lewis College (now Northern Illinois) opened their doors. I want to see ISU grow into a major institution that meets the realistic hiring needs of the future. What does the academic senate prefer —— a graduate program in gender studies? The rejection is asinine.

Although I may agree .. it’s called leverage. Just a little speed bump until a work contract can be further negotiated. Hopefully the labor dispute will be resolved before summer school begins.

Unfortunately the "miss the boat" at ISU has repeated itself many times over throughout its history. Yes, ludicrous that the CURRENT students on the board did not allow this to pass. When I was at ISU from 2005 to 2007, the College of Business had one of the best paying stipends. It really was a great Other colleges on campus were paid less on the stipend, but still got the free tuition. I am unsure what their grievances are, but they will find out different companies pay their employees differently. Some of them are in for a rude awakening of how the real world is.
