Jim Mattson tweeted what we're all thinking. How does it make sense that the Birds can't travel 35 minutes east on I-74 but a month later, Illannoy can go 820 miles to play at Rutgers. Seems so silly.

Can the Redbirds Schedule with another non-conference team that was big ten canceled for that weekend?
Add in another possible home game? AD should be on the phone right now.............

Gutless Cowards!!! The Big Ten knew that Papa Smurf and the crew in Champaign didn't want to face the Birds. 😁

SEMO just canceled their home game with Dayton for that weekend. Maybe another trip down to Cape Girardeau is in store for ISU.

If conference only season, does that mean no bowl games for the B10?

Fall 1918 all over again? Cognitive Inertia. As long as so many who are blind to the changed realities of this virus figure out this is not a nuisance and change their habits we're going keep reading this stuff. My guess is those who want football the most are among those causing the spikes that are going to end up closing it down. Want football this fall? Get over the politics and listen to the Doctors. Yep, it's been 102 years and cognitive inertia is still alive and well. Too bad for us.

" The Illinois football team, which has continued with voluntary workouts, was also scheduled to host UConn on Sept. 12 and Bowling Green on Sept. 19. Illinois would have been heavy favorites in those three games and likely would have gone 3-0, halfway to bowl eligibility for a second straight season. "

I think after the announcements the past few days it is looking more likely that there will be no college football this fall. As a football fan, this will be sad but we will just be missing a chance to watch a season of football. I really will feel sorry for the players who will miss a year of competition. In particular, the Seniors who may not be able to hang around for another year. The fallout as we saw with Stanford will continue to hit programs hard. For the big boys in Power 5, it means losses of millions of dollars. I think the landscape of major sports is likely going to be changing and maybe it is time for that to happen. I used to watch the NFL, NHL, College Football, College Soccer, and the English Premiership Soccer League. Watching Monday and Thursday night football, 2 or 3 college football games, and a couple of NFL games on Sunday was the norm. In the last couple of years, I watch Redbird Football and an occasional Notre Dame game. With the ESPN+ package, I watched a few Lady Redbird Volleyball games. I found out...I didn't miss any of the other stuff. I was happy just to watch Redbird Football. If the boys don't play this year I will truly miss watching them. The rest to me has become just money and politics and I don't find it enjoyable any longer.

In my professional and objective opinion, ....

The Illini had a good lawyer looking over these contracts. Who would have figured epidemic several months ago? Sad to lose a big payday but more sad to lose the game with the Illini. I think we stood a pretty decent chance of giving Lovie another "L" in his resume.
