Sigh...
as a former cheerleader at ISU, I can assure you that although we received some support from the university, it was very little. We relied on donors and our own budget. The university would help us secure a shuttle (from our funds) so we could drive ourselves to some of the games, well... if someone on the team had a CDL. The only time we traveled on the university dime was during the MVC and when we go to the NCAA tourney (yes that was when I was there) but that was because the money was provided from the NCAA. Cheerleading is not a sanctioned sport, and Nationals is an invite only, non-NCAA competition. The university will rarely claim it, unless we win (or place 2nd) like we did back in 2002. Leanna Bordner used to make it abundantly clear that we were not there for competition. and although she was super rude about it, she was right.
