The good news is we control our own destiny and will secure at least a 3 seed if we win out in the last 4 games. The bad news is that we have by far the toughest remaining schedule of any team contending for a top 4 seed. With UNI and Murray State losing today it seems it is pretty well between us and UNi for the final remaining top 4 seed. We could get a higher seed than Missouri State if we beat them but Missouri State is assured of a top 4 seed if they win 2 of their last 4 games as they have 2 game lead over UNI and would win the tiebreaker over UNI. Since we split with UNI tiebreaker would be NET which right now is in UNI's favor. It is possible we could slip to a 6 seed if we lose 2 more games and one of them is Murray State. If we win both home games and lose to Missouri State it is possible we could jump over UNI in NET. Best path is just to win out but we have 3 tough games remaining and I don't see that happening, especially winning at Missouri State.

MVCfan- the NET will not be a factor. We would have the tie breaker over UNI since we beat the #1 seed Drake.

Teams are seeded by conference record, with ties broken by the overall record in conference games played between the tied teams, then (if necessary) by comparison of records between the tying institutions versus the top team in the standings (and continuing from top to bottom of standings, as necessary, with the team having the better record against that team receiving the better seed). The top four seeds receive opening–round byes.

I see it this way. If the Birds play our game, which does need Dee staying out of foul trouble, I would take us over anyone.

This is often a tournament where a senior puts her team on her back to win 3-4 games. We have capable players for that role.

If Kate is willing to pull the trigger today like she did, that is going to spread some defenses.

You are right. Thought they went to NET. That is big for us

When we are not at home we do not typically play well against top teams. We have perimeter defensive issues. The best teams have good bigs and attack the paint. We can be really good at times but we have weaknesses.

When we are not at home we do not typically play well against top teams. In our 4 road games against top 6 MVC teams we have lost by a combined total of 89 points with our clisest game being 12 points. Granted the MVC tournament will be at a neutral site. But most of the top MVC teams have skilled bigs who will challenge us inside and quick point guards who we struggle to defend well.

Off the topic of the first post, but fits the title of the thread.

Good news for Coach G, bad news for us - she's mentioned in the Milwaukee paper as a potential candidate for the Marquette open HC job. Not really first on the list, but still . . . . . Interesting theory that she may be "waiting" for one of the "bigger" jobs in Illinois to open up. Assuming they mean UIUC or DePaul, those would be the only ones bigger than ISU, right?? Oh NU too. ;)

The Ready-For-The-Next-Step Candidate: Kristen Gillespie

Gillespie was a point guard at North Carolina State under legendary head coach Kay Yow in the late 1990s. She has been the head coach at Illinois State since 2017, going 133-82 and winning regular-season and tournament titles in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Why Gillespie? Before Illinois State, Gillespie coached at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, and Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. So she has steadily climbed the coaching ladder in the Midwest.

Why not? Gillespie seems to have found a home in Illinois, and she might be waiting for one of the high-major jobs in that state to open up.

Well we know UIUC won't be open anytime soon, because their coach in only in her second year. She appears to have stopped the program from falling further down the Big 10 ladder, however, that could change with the West Coast teams joining this year.

Doug Bruno is about to turn 74 this fall. The last 2 seasons DePaul has gone 28-37 and finished 8th and 10th in conf.

As far as I can see, his contract runs thru 24-25 season.

Good news - Marquette picked former MU assistant and current UNC-Charlotte Cara Consuegra as new HC.
