In likely disappointing news for @fourthandshort, ISU has added home games against Dayton and Lindenwood to complete the non-conference schedule for 2023. Notice the Lindenwood game is on 9/23/23, so it will take place of the WIU game. That mean the MVFC will, as expected be reorienting our conference schedule for 2023 with the addition of Murray State. It looks like our bye week is going to be 9/9/23 unless we have an early conference game scheduled. This also confirms there will be no FBS opponent in 2023 for the first time since 2017 (Non-conference was not played in Spring 2021).

ISU has also added 2025 games against EIU and Morehead State to complete the 2025 non-conference slate.

oh well ... we still get more than enough competition in conference games. This only hurts us if were on the bubble with a team who played tougher schedule. That, and does little to prep us for conf season.

Denver Johnson is OL coach at Lindenwood. Made the DII playoffs last year with a 9-2 record, lost to Grand Valley State in round 1.

Our schedule has been updated here for 2023 and 2024. Next year we play Dayton, WIU, EIU, Lindenwood, InSt, YSU, and Murray State. All of which will hopefully be wins. We also play SDSU, UNI, MoSt, and UND. We should be able to easily walk into the playoffs. Real chance that we can get to 9 wins, even if we are only the 4th or 5th best team in the conference.

I appreciate the positive spin. It would be nice if we could cruise to 9 wins but frankly I'm disappointed in the schedule. If we couldn't get an FBS game, I would have at least liked to play a more notable FCS school. Someone from the CAA would be nice. Delaware, Richmond and William and Mary would all be interesting places to visit. I would accept 5 homes games if it meant playing a challenging non-con schedule.

I completely agree. I was disappointed with the schedule as well. I was just emphasizing that without 3 of the traditional top 7 teams in the MVFC in addition to not having a FBS or strong FCS in the non-conference, we should expect to be able to rack up some wins next year. Expectations should be high for next year in terms of regular season wins.

Just get in the play-offs. I really don't care how we get there. If we just traded 2 Ls for 2 Ws and it's the difference in making the play offs, so be it.

I am with you TR! Richmond and W & M are both less than an hour from my residence! I would love to see the Birds travel to play a CAA team. Scheduling is tough though.

Not sure if those games are still scheduled or not. Dixie State has changed their name to Utah Tech.

They still list the 2 games on their future schedules but all games are listed as tentative

Neither game is listed on their schedules now. So it doesn't appear any games are ever going to be played between ISU and Utah Tech.

I don't recall where I read it but I thought there was reporting some time ago that these games with Dixie State (Utah Tech) were dropped. I don't believe anyone was terribly excited about these games anyway so it did not make much of a ripple.

wow ... this may be our easiest schedule under Spack regime by far. I don't like it either. I'll take 7-4 with top 10 SOS over 9-3 against this schedule. And we dont play NDSU either. This doesn't do much to prepare us for MVFC nor the playoffs.

Murray State, Dayton, and Lindenwood...pretty awesome, huh? All three games at Hancock. That will stretch the capacity of the stadium to bursting. They do get SDSU at Hancock but, yep, from the current time it does not look to be a very challenging schedule.

No question we've had tougher schedules.

But Lindenwood hung 59 on Central Arkansas last weekend and beat them on the purple turf in Conway. They take on EIU this weekend. We'll see.
