QB General Booty from Tyler JC. The same school where Brady Davis is now an asst. coach. Interesting.
From what I’ve read, he’s the nephew of former USC Trojan/MN Viking John David Booty. Led JUCO in yards.

While looking at JUCO names, another one to watch is Qua Gray. Former EIU Panther. 2nd in total yards, 1st in YPG at the JUCO level. Also saw he finished #10 in total yards in TX HS history. At least he’s familiar with central IL, maybe even visited Hancock too. Redshirted his only year in Charleston.

I do I really like this freshman quarterback,.I think we'll be really good over time. But, he has to get touches to the big receivers. ISU has big receivers like most Missouri Valley football Conference teams. By not passing to the 6'3" - 6'5 receivers doesn't optimize the big receiver advantage over most defensive backs in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Passing the small receivers are usually very fast, I don't even takes away the advantage of the bigger and stronger receivers. B u and other Missouri Valley Football Conference teams are going to make the jump to Conference USA or the ACC they're going to have to depend on the bigger receivers to compete.

To Crzzy:

OK, it’s Happy Hour in Fla, I get it. Please use some punctuation and white space. You may have some great thoughts, but it’s hard for us to follow you, bud!

In addition to the Buffalomeat story line, I thought in the recruiting class last year ( or maybe the year before..........COVID years have warped my memory of such things) we had a lineman recruit who was coming from Peculiar, Missouri to Normal, IL.

Not sure what happened to him along the way.

Question...

What happened to IL HS football?? Only 2 HS players from IL in the top 100 college football recruits (just 6 in the top 300)?

It has dropped off some in talent somewhat since the 70's and 80's but not as much as the recruiting services would have you believe. Illinois used to have 4 and 5 star linemen and linebackers but that number has gone down. It has become a self-fulfilling thing where analysts have detected less talent and they started paying less attention. You get judged against your competition so even when an Illinois lineman dominates they now assume he's going against inferior players. I'd get more upset about it, but I think it can work to our advantage. When players like James Robinson or John Ridgeway get overlooked we can swoop in. I don't see it getting better anytime soon. Some high schoolers will even leave Illinois and go to warm weather states (Florida, Texas, Calif) where analysts and college football recruiters focus.

How many players from the State of Illinois are currently in the NFL? 82?

Here's a link to an article from Prairie State Pigskin, that is based on an interview with Edgy Tim, recruiting guru. Lots of stuff about how it's a down year for Illinois recruits.

O’Halloran cites his main factors in this decline: the growing numbers of collegiate players entering the transfer portal and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Just a terrible, terrible combination of things right now that’s literally killing recruiting high school athletes. It really is. I’ll be shocked if that’s not the big story coming out of this,” O’Halloran said.

O’Halloran stated on his Rivals.com website, “The State of Illinois not playing fall football in 2020 limited the ability of college programs to truly scout and evaluate players.”

O’Halloran further wrote, ” . . . and combine all of those factors, (and there’s) no question (it) hurts high school football recruiting process in a historic fashion.”
