It’s short sighted to fear the pain of a payout. The potential money a respectable, yearly competitive, program brings in will make the Muller buyout but a blip on the screen years down the road.

Easy enough. Put up the money.
Many people are. They aren’t donating. Larry Lyons/ISU got themselves in this mess...They need to get themselves out of it. I guess that means Dan stays til the end of 2024, and the program will have issues til 2026-28...because I expect it to take a coach 2-5 years to turn this mess around.

1500 donors for $1000. I am in.

On this topic. I am debating with myself if we truly lack talent or is it coaching the talent. Both fall on the coach. If we lack talent that is his fault. If we have talent and cannot coach it that is his fault too. What do other Redbird fans think?

I think that Coach Muller is not going anywhere before the end of the season (if at all). I am going to enjoy today’s Win, and hope for a couple of Win’s against Indiana St next weekend to get to 3-3. That’s what this Redbird Fan thinks!

No way we get 1,500 to donate in order to move on from the coach. I appreciate the thinking but zero chance it happens!

Good for you. Wallowing in mediocrity is a helluva way to go through life. Me? I set the bar a little higher....

Well I don’t know about Redsoxfan but personally basketball isn’t important enough in my life that acceptance of mediocrity is wallowing in life. Basketball is one sport one season. Doesn’t come close enough to the importance of family etc that it would affect my life in any measurable way. Sad

Ha. Actually I care less than ever. I just am not a fan of accepting crap wins as reasons to get excited about a crap program going nowhere...once again.
I’m really only here because I have nothing else to do.
I mean, amongst your fellow sports fans, aren’t you all embarrassed to be an alum?
We are the laughing stock of college basketball, a literal punching-bag for other programs. They laugh when they see us on their schedule. And, if a miracle happenss, and we actually win a game, it’s in the “bad loss” department for the other team come selection Sunday.
Apparently that’s ok for some...

I really think youre wrong about the people here at this point. Yes, two years ago when people were banging the fire drum there were true supporters still. Nobody here wants Dan to be the Redbird coach. Even the "Kool-Aiders". Like I said previously they just choose not to bash and support the team despite knowing that they are crap. Supporting the college kids isnt the same as supporting Dan. I can accept that. Personally, I'll still bang the fire drum.

Cali,

It will be a cold day in hell before I am ever embarrassed to be an alum of ISU. Yes, the basketball team is struggling. If it was not for the money would Dan be fired at the end of the season, I would say so. I have seen way more losing than winning over the years from the sports at ISU. I have been known to rock my ISU gear the day after a giant loss just so people know I am still a proud alum and a fan. The bball team will turn this around eventually and we will be a top tier valley team.

I can't see what Cali said. Frankly, don't care what he said. I can guess, tho. I'll say this, as I've said so many times, I have no problem with people expressing a desire to have Dan fired. Your opinions are your opinions. I do have a problem with every effing thread getting hijacked into a 'fire Dan' cacophony by some--usually the same group--posters. They're the vuvuzelas of basketball threads, and I hate vuvuzelas.

I miss a lot of comments on many threads, sometimes entire threads, because of all the 'foes' I've had to set up--all the vuvuzelas I've needed to silence--just so I can enjoy some reasonable discussions. I understand the desire to fire Dan. I really do. I just don't think it's going to happen this year because of COVID and a new AD.

What would really be nice is if we could have some game discussions that reflect what is happening in that game. From yesterday's game I will say that Reeves and Sissoko showed me that they're more than I've been giving them credit for being. Dan's move to ditch the zone and go m2m in the 2nd half. was nicely done. Acknowledgment of good play/effort, good passes, good moves, surprises (like Mahorcic's trey) that relate to the game at hand are not statements of approval for how the season is going. Celebrating a win is not drinking the Kool-Aid.

One thought I had watching this weekend was that I wasn't listening to my own "regular" advice I post from time to time on the board (be patient) - most of the time, our guys aren't going to come in here freshman year or even soph year and "excel". People end up ripping on someone (say Idowu for example) because they have this or that shortcoming, but it's only a freshman or soph and they haven't yet gotten their game together. I was watching Reeves especially earlier, or Horne, and thinking wow, these guys aren't getting the job done, blah blah blah. Abdou too. Sissoko. But then came around to thinking, well you know they aren't even halfway into their soph year. Be patient.

There's a way to go with this team, may be a really tough year, but there's promise in some of these guys. I like Sissoko, Washington, even Andrews has looked pretty decent in some of his appearances. Reeves and Horne and Fleming, they make mistakes, they have "dry spells", they take some bad shots. Maybe they'll get there, later, next year, the year after.

Now, why we seem to always be dealing with young teams and turnover, etc., well, that's an issue for another discussion :)

Bird Friend. I hope I'm not one you "foe'd" cause I'm hoping you see I agree with your sentiment. Just wanted to pop in an attaboy. :)

I know you likely won’t see this ‘cause the cowardly thing to do these days is to block (cancel) those you don’t agree with. I’ll just say, good for you in avoiding any type of discourse so you don’t get your precious, delicate, feelings hurt.
So weak...just like ISU basketball.

Hey Birdfriend. I’m still here for you. Just check the box on the note I sent you during recess to let me know if you still be my friend or not.
