If this program hadn’t have sunk to below shit-levels, perhaps there would be enough enthusiasm from outside donors.
Losing breeds apathy and we’re well beyond apathy (aside from the maybe 20 dedicated fans on this site that’s still sorta care).
Football wins, up to this year. Can't get enough for a tent for indoor practices. I think it comes from decades of not prioritizing athletics and a transient Bloomington/Normal.

Football plays in a B league though so winning probably doesn’t matter as much. If ISU basketball made a sweet 16, BLO-NO would be going nuts. Enthusiasm for a single March madness game would top a fcs national title game.

Couldn’t agree more. While football has been relatively successful, it still takes a distant backseat to basketball and really brings in nothing in terms of revenue.
Let’s face it, how many Redbird fans would vote to drop football for an Elite 8 appearance, a Final Four appearance, and let’s dream for a second, a NC game? I’m guessing it would be 90%/95%/100%.
Me? I’m 100% across the board....

I have strong doubts that "blo-no would be going crazy" if we made the S16. Would you hear increased chatter and such? Sure. But I don't think to open the next season we have people camping out to get in. It just isn't what this town is.

That because they havent given this town anything in 20+ years. they were averaging 8,000 back then. if they win they may not sellout lesser games but 8k isnt bad nowadays for college basketball.

The fact we can average 4-5,000 fans and the product be god awful the last 9 years except for 1 or 2 above average seasons tells me if we got good there would be a lot of interest.

Now according to the WSF brochure we are down to only 600 donors so there is a lot of damage to be repaired.

If ISU basketball just made the NCAA Tournament it would make going to Frisco look like small potatoes. Let alone win a game or two.

I think the number of donors has certainly been trending down the past couple of years, but couple in COVID, surely there were smaller donors who were giving as much as they could but the pandemic caused them to work less, and have less disposable income.

That said, this town is a bandwagon (fair weather) town for sure. You can see that with football. 10K on a sunny 70 degree day, 5,000 on the next weekend when it is cloudy and 55.

I remember in the Moser days, you could walk up and buy 5 LB tickets together 10 min before tip. Jank came, had some success with the number of wins, locals saw the 25 wins and started coming out. 9+k fans several times over his tenue. Then you look to Muller's best team in 16-17 RBA was rocking in that second round of the NIT. Nearly 8k at that game. That suggests locals will come out to see a winning product.

That’s called being thrifty. If ISU doesn’t care- why should the fans shell out their hard earn dollars? I can see a down year to rebuild- but Muller’s track record sounds like his comments.

I know many fans that have jumped aboard the Illini bandwagon. I do believe they would come out of the wood work.

I been trying to figure out how we can pay for the new portion of the stadium at Hancock, Coaches salaries and 66 scholarships on 5 homes games and little football revenue? I guess that explains why Muller will be here for year 12.

Not sure if anyone is watching Last Chance U on Netflix?
Wondering out loud what it take to get their coach, John Mosley, to ISU. I love his style and energy. Also, I’m guessing his salary is under 100k.

Ok, so someone is watching.

What do you think of Mosely as a coach?
I'm only through the second episode. I haven't established an opinion yet. But, through what I've seen, I would've sent that big kid packing after he walked out on his team twice. No room for that on a team at any level, even a California JUCO.

Most of those kids have an issue or two or they wouldn't be there. Joe Hampton starts to come around. Ends up at Long Beach State. Mosely may have saved that kid and given him a future. Isn't that what JUCO is for?
Spoiler alert.....

Who would rather have...Muller or Mosley?
