But are we still with Muller as coach?

If we finished .500 overall from this point on, I'd say we finish in the bottom half of the Valley and Muller is probably let go at the end of the year. I think he needs to finish 6th or hire to make it to next year.

.500 in this (very average) conference gets a completely overwhelmed, horrible, coach another extension? God, I hope not.

I believe they just meant whether or not he gets fired. I don't think anyone brought up an extension.

If we finish at or over .500, play competitive ball, end up no worse than 7th (not that thats a great benchmark, but...) and see attendance tick up throughout the season (also not a great current benchmark), then I'm betting DM will be back.

Scratch 2020. Covid & the crazy situations there will always give him that one pass. Enter this season, a brand new roster with only one senior, and expectations in the toilet. If he can get the guys to play above that and eek out a winning season, he'll get one more year with the bulk of this roster back (depending on if/who enters the portal of course.)

He also has the latitude of neither the AD or president having experienced any past history of hoops success at ISU to compare the current state of the program to. Sure, they likely have donors/fans/students in their ear, but in a way, DM's bosses are still in assessment mode. So if we end up having a competitive season, their assessment may not be so bleak.

For a smart college student, a Bone Scholar, it is amazing how much dumber Dan Muller got after he was the head coach of a 17-1 MVC team and most everybody wanted him to be a Redbird for life. Whitey Herzog said when he lost Bruce Sutter to free agency, "I just got 30 games dumber". Yak and others were a big help just as Sutter was to Whitey.
Face it Birds fans, ISU is not buying out Muller. He will be here next year. Accept it, move on, and support the team we have. They are actually playing pretty well now and are fun to watch. I really look forward to each game.
My New Years Resolution is not to read this POST until the season is over.

I’d imagine conference record will weigh heavy on the decision to bring Muller back. I’m sure Brennan is pleased with our play as of late, and would like to avoid the buyout for another season if possible. I could see a situation where we finish top 5 in the Valley, win a game at Arch Madness, get a CBI invite and Muller returns. A lot would need to go right for that to happen. I also see a situation where the wheels fall off in conference play and another Thursday night exit forces Brennan’s hand to buy Muller out.

Think the 'birds minimally need to tie for sixth place in conference for there to be any retention discussion (benefit of doubt if they cannot avoid play-in game solely do tie-breaker criteria). I think it could be a tight fit. Right now I envision sixth but that means finishing ahead of (probably) Bradley, Evansville, Indiana State and Valparaiso - no guarantees.

If 6th place is enough to keep Muller, then this programs’ goals are truly lower than a pregnant ants belly.

Plus I have read that it is time to move on from the past. I guess we need to forget about the past few seasons by that logic.

Cuonzo Martin is available after being fired by Mizzou. Perhaps a return to the MVC to restart his career?

If you Dan-hating dolts don't realize how well-coached a roady @ the best team in the conference, during a pandemic, on the heels of reduced rosters and practice time.... well assume a one fingered gesture.

Fake news? I see a report on the interwebs that it was a "fake" twitter message. Nothing on the MU website and his bio is still up there. They did get hosed last night vs. Arkansas.

I will gladly take a one fingered gesture if it means a new coach.

I just checked the Post-Dispatch and I didn't see anything on their sports page.

Larry, c'mon man, time to leave Pub II and sober up. It's getting embarrassing.
