As discussed in other threads, Sy did not make the trip to Evansville. It has since been announced that he has opted out for the season. He is still enrolled at ISU.

I don’t know how much of an “opt out” this is versus a team decision, but it feels like he’s played his last game as a Redbird.

Saw this coming. He isn't the type of player Muller had started recruiting again starting with last year's class. Seemed more of a favor for Strong to see if they could help Sy.

Boyd, Mahorcic, Strong, Ndiaye, Horne, Reeves, Sissoko, Fleming Jr. are looking to be the eight Dan wants to roll with. Chatman, Kotov, Andrews, Washington following behind (each for their own reason).

Chatman probably looking to try and (damage) control/spin the narrative ahead of his next potential landing spot (similar to withdrawing one's name out of a coaching race immediately prior to the hire announcement).

On another note, wonder what the plus/minus would be over Dan's tenure in terms of what has been gotten from these type of flyers?

Chatman has already been removed from the roster page. Clearly this was not well received by the leadership.

Fisher isn't on the roster either, so may just be a reflection of who's on the bench for each game.

Honestly, I'd rather not have him around the young guys. We know he was having problems with coaches and teammates. I suspect the stressers of 2020/2021 werent helping, but you can't keep a guy like that around if you can avoid it. Even as thin as we are down low, I'd rather not have a clubhouse cancer around even if he did have a chance to be an important player in the paint.

The issue for me is that we have had our share of these types of players over the past few years (Lofton - Milik - Chatman). Why does that happen? Stable programs like Northern Iowa and Loyola do not have this problem to the extent that we do. There has to be some inkling of a player’s attitude and coachability.

I think Dan is a fatalist. He sees a kid and wants to fix them and help them become a man. Which is commendable but is also helping his fall from grace. The other problem is what I call the Matt Nagy problem. His ego is too big to change his ways. Both men are going to eventually be fired because they are so sure their way is correct even after years of evidence stating otherwise.
