According to who? The athletic dept. that inked this deal will faithfully refer to it as Cefcu. The media will comply and refer to it as Cefcu. Every year a new group of students with little exposure to the old name will reference the building the way it is labeled and call it Cefcu. RBF.net will be the holdout. Fans that have known it as RA since the beginning and have that deeply ingrained in them will be the slowest to make the change, but they will gradually become marginalized. I'm fairly certain that RBF.net already has a thread with the title Cefcu arena. The new name has already made its way into the toughest market of acceptance.

As stated, will take some getting used to, but not every facility is going to be Cameron Indoor or Rupp Arena. As ISU tries to hold serve with the big money players in college sports, revenue will be incredibly important. Naming rights is a no cost check for ISU athletics and probably pays for the yearly operational cost of the new indoor practice facility. I expect Hancock and the practice bubble to have a corporate brand on them within the next 4 years. The Country Financial logo would look pretty good on the outside of the bubble for $120,000 a year.

Sidenote: I was on campus for a wedding this past weekend and holy shit is the campus in remarkable shape. I'm actually jealous of the kids who get to attend that school for 4+ years in 2022. The quad, every building, the rec center, the Bone remodel, the Milner remodel not to mention how far Uptown Normal has come (though, do we really need 3 record shops on one block? How many people have record players in McLean County?). Im just pissed that I didn't get a chance to play Weibring this year because the secret is out and IHSA threw all of the state championship golf tournaments at it and the Den the one weekend I could make it down.

It's thoroughly embarrassing the "State Farm"... whatever in Chambana is branded an hour down to that armpit. Country can't sponsor practice fields? AFNI a practice gym or Horton help for intramurals? Advocate/Carle athletic training/recovery facilities (Kaufmann upgrade)? Rivian a "performance enhancement" facility for football & track/field - push the buck to get the other local used car guys to ante up for sponsored lot spaces with a few model vehicles bookending their part of the lot.

I understand this is a source of revenue and very common practice for arenas all over the country. I'm mainly surprised by how cheap these rights were sold. $310,000 per year seems like a very low amount considering it's for every mention of Redbird Arena and type of event including concerts, holiday tournaments, graduations, etc.

Records are really big right now. Every artist releases vinyl with their new releases and the biggest issue is that production cannot keep up. I too am jealous of the shape of campus, but it's great to see!

I looked into naming rights for other basketball arenas in the MVC. A lot of them have permanent naming rights, but for those that don't, ISU doesn't seem to be getting a lot from their deal.

SIU is getting $3.5 million over 10 years starting in 2019.
UIC is getting $9.3 million over 15 years starting in 2018, plus $750,000 for scholarships.
Murray State received a one time donation of $3.3 million for permanent naming rights.
Missouri State received a one time donation in 2022 of $5.5 million for permanent naming rights.
Drake received a one time donation in 1992 of $3 million for permanent naming rights for the stadium and a "generous" donation for naming the court in 2010.
Indiana State received a one time donation in 1973 of $2.5 million for permanent naming rights.
Belmont received a one time donation in Indiana State received a one time donation in 2002 of $10 million for permanent naming rights.

SIU seems to be getting a bit more than that.

The multi-million-dollar agreement, which includes a 10-year extension option, annual payments plus an affinity program, offers up to $10 million for SIU, with a $4-million guarantee for the first 10 years
