There's a pattern here ... I think many of the advocates for Lamb and Cornley don't have Twitter. The younger group (who obviously watched Watkins) has Twitter is voting for Leroy.

I also don't think of Lamb as a "coke machine." For those that never saw him he actually brought the ball up against the breast. So offense was kind of triggered by him a lot of the times. Cornley and Watkins were definite epidomes of coke machine. Holyfield has a little more face up offense to his game and athletic defense. Anyway, just an opinion.

I honestly don’t see a wrong answer. All these guys were really good and very tough. I, too, saw LW more than the others. Leroy was always friendly. Big dude you could see on the quad from anywhere.

Rick Lamb was a very good athlete. He had a scholarship offer to play QB for the Illini, and was the last person cut by the Celtics.

It's been a while since we posted because Big Pemp has been moving back from Arizona to Normal.

Larry was a great guest. The Podcast is a little long but there is tons of information there from scheduling, thoughts on FCS vs FBS, having 33 RPI twice, and just favorite moments. You can hear his passion for ISU, Bloomington-Normal, and Redbird Athletics.

Hope you enjoy

Larry definitely had his downfalls as an AD but this was a very insightful conversation. Some good behind-the-scenes stuff. Nicely done, gentlemen!

Guys, this is such a cool thing you do. Thank you so much.

Every poster on this forum should give this particular episode a listen. It gives you insight into Larry from both a professional and personal perspective. It will give you pause, as a fan, before you (and I) blindly criticize what you really don't know...unless you've been in those Redbird A.D. shoes. (or Redbird coaching shoes, or Redbird uniform shoes)

BTW, welcome home Big Pemp.👊 You are greeeaaaat mojo for the program.

Well said Humdinger. The episode is long but worth it in my opinion. Make sure you listen to the end of the podcast about the great seat debate in St Louis.

We have not recorded an episode recently but plan to start back up in January. Some games were recently loaded that you may want to watch over the holidays. Here is the link to the first two 1993 MVC tournament games against Indiana St and Drake. The Drake was a great come back.

Here's another great game to watch.... SIU at ISU in 1995. Watch the screen set at just past 1:12:30 into the recording

Wow. I already forgot how steep the stairs were at old RBA compared to the new ones. It makes that old promotion where students would race to the top of the arena for free groceries or whatever that much more impressive.

Some other things of note

The old scoreboard
Students standing and active
No fan seating on floor opposite benches. Instead a sea of tables for press, announcers etc...
Home and away benches flipped
No ribbon
The court not named for Doug. I forgot it only said Illinois State on one side. Looks strange

At one pint I hear the attendance announced and UT was over 9100 for SIU game

Cason had 16 assists in this game and Smiley had 10 assists as a true freshman off the bench. Stallings could really dial up some offense

Great game, great crowd.

We started off 6-7 that year and then started rolling, and finished 20-13. Hoping the Washington State NIT game from that year surfaces sometime. Sucks we lost, but it was an awesome game and the arena was bonkers that night.

The SIU game was fabulous to watch. Yes, the screen was insane. It led to a Chad A 3.
Thank you for sharing it!
