I actually like Schmidt on the floor versus Kotov or Andrews. It wasn't perfect but he definitely contributed. Got a couple of rebounds, disrupted a few shots, and made a very nice pass. Hustled back on a fast break.

I think it helps Liam when there is another big body on the floor. I also felt when Ryan rolled to the basket it helped the guard because the other player actually was rolling with him.

I always felt he was too nice and needed to get a more competitive demeanor. He still has plenty to work on but I saw flashes last year and today. I think he has more upside than Kotov or Andrews.

Just my opinion and there is plenty to argue why he shouldn't see the floor.

This was a good win. Belmont has some guys that can score and their motion offense and hard cutting to the basket is a challenge to defend. They constantly move the ball around and wait until someone is open while cutting toward the hoop. Reminded me of Evansville during the Marty Simmons era.

The Redbirds played hard from the beginning although the turnovers and shot violations are enough to drive me to the ledge. They definitely came to play and battled and kept their chin up the entire game. All of a sudden in the second half things started to click and they started to bomb and score driving to the basket. I like what coach said in the post game (paraphrasing) in that he told DB and CS that he was not purposely trying to sit them on the bench but the current group was killing it and he wanted to ride that wave.

Seneca Knight is starting to look solid and what I was expecting from him. He can ball with the best. He presents a problem since he can post, drive and bomb. Sometime he has gotten out of control but he seems to have settled in and has been playing great ball.

As others have said, Schmidt played some solid minutes. When he has gotten beat in the past he would always foul to compensate his slow reflexes and feet. He did that one time tonight. When he is out there he does provide some size and girth in the paint. He can make it difficult sometimes for the opponent to score due to his size and he altered some shots and showed some hustle.

Liam being Liam -- that's what I want to see more of. He altered so many shots because of his length and athleticism. I thought he was a game changer on defense as well as the nice scoring line he put up. The team deflected so many passes tonight as they were all in on defense from the get go. Great to see on their home court.

All in all, it was nice to see the team rewarded with a W for all of the hard work they have been putting in. It took some hot shooting to put this one away and hopefully we will see the turnovers reduced -- several of them came late in the game when Belmont was pressuring and we looked like we hadn't seen a press before. They need to work on getting the ball into play when pressured.

A Redbird W always feels good!

Shocking win... But as I said you got to just shoot threes no matter what to have a chance to win

Yes, that was a fun game today. The confidence started late in the first half - the three by Sandage just before Half was HUGE. Then when Luke pounded in those two open 3's - it was wonderful. I am ready for Wednesday night - hopefully more people will be there. Then we can look forward to Saturday in Horton.

Feeling very Porter-era-ish.

The portal screws everything.

Yak and Collins Jr. won't fly in 2024/

The Jank thing was the fix. Damn, that was KS part2.

I am going to assume you don't watch a lot of college basketball. Of just the Valley games this weekend we shot the fifth fewest threes. Indiana State led the way with 34. The majority of our 21 were wide open looks.

How many threes do you think should be attempted a game? You bring it up all the time so you must have a number.

I'm confused about the ripping on Schmitt. I was at the game and I'm telling you - when he entered the game, our tempo instantly changed - we looked like a different team - and to me he was the substitution that opened the door for us. Plus he absolutely hustled his ass off which sparked the team. I can elaborate more but I'll leave it to that. I'm not claiming he's a gold-standard player, but he deserves BIG kudos this game.

Our lack of awareness regarding the shot clock...from our ball-handling guards for peter's sake...was INEXCUSABLE. Gang it was awful. Like Hulka said...even coming out of our own time-outs, several times!!

The way we played the first half is partially why we won the second half. The deflections in the first half altered their shots and passes in the second half. The rebounding, 50-50 balls, the physical play and just the hard work in the first half seemed to get Belmont tired in the second half. Mainly the deliberate offense and not settling for shots got us the open threes in the second half. Belmont looked tired out.

- Like others I don't understand why upset with how Schmitt played, his feet are slow for what style and how we want to play on defense but that dude came in, hustled and did his job. He defended the paint, altered shots and got a few rebounds, from a backup big who may play 10 minutes a game that imo is what you're asking from that spot. Rebound and defend the paint, set screens and open up shooters on offense. We all wish for Kotov and Andrews but they had the chance this year.
- Really happy for Jayden Johnson to get some meaningful minutes and produce. Pedon said JJ has been learning the 4 on offense and with the substitutions that caused for some guys to be in different positions and some of the early offensive woes. With JJ that dude has the prettiest shot, he knows what he needs to do to get on the floor, so happy for him yesterday.
-Hats off to Burford and 8 rebounds out of a 6ft guard. Pedon said they watched film of Purdue and how they all attack the glass, seems Burford really listened to that.
- Continue to learn and grow from this week, it wasn't always pretty but the effort was there and that's what was fun to watch. Already excited for Wednesday and with the way Liam played with how the coaching staff is starting to use him a matchup of Liam vs Armoni Bates on Wednesday will be fun to watch.

It’s not a shocking win to me at all. I e been saying all along this team will be a great shooting team. It’s all about movement on offense and running spacious sets. No we’re not gonna shoot it at this clip every game but will shoot it well enough to be in many and win more than the fan base expects. Learning to run offense at a slow pace is the learning curve offensively to still have space is tricky. The other part of it is to be able to take care of the ball and hit open shots when sped up is the critical part. Pedon placing Mal at the 1 was a huge thing for him to do. Coming in I knew his offensive mind is there, it’s up to the players to execute under control even when sped up. Confidence is a real thing and can be contagious. For the most part it looks like most of this team have it right now. This team could easily be 6-3 right now and 2-0 in the VALLEY. A great shooting team can hide lots of flaws. During the pre season I was thinking 75 pg would be good enough to win lots of games and still do. 80+ and this team have a chance to be special in the VALLEY this year. Kudos to the Coaching Staff peeps let’s enjoy.

You have been consistent with this message for sure. Let's hope we see some consistency with all the improvements so far.

It looks like Pedon is trying to get the players learning how to run a deliberate offense, which I think is all part of the game plan. In the long run, the shot clock violations we are getting right now means very little. No one likes a turnover, but most coaches would prefer that over a panic turnover that results in an easy basket the other way. I would also say the shot clock violations at home are just as much on the bench and the fans as it is on the players.

1000% That is supposed to be part of "home court advantage."

On the other side of the coin, when I was a student for the visitors, we would count down the clock 5 seconds early and when they got wind of it, switch to 5 seconds late and change it up throughout the game. Definitely caused some confusion, bad shots, and turnovers several times.

I went to the game with my dad yesterday. It was his first time seeing the guys play. He said early on, the team had no energy, which got me thinking. They're playing a home game in front of 3,000 people who most of which, act like they're watching the PGA *golf clap*. Energy is interesting, players some times need it from the crowd to play well, but the crowd doesn't provide it unless the team plays well. I wish more fans and students would be engaged. You're taking the time out of your day to come to the arena, why not be part of the fun? If you're just going to sit on your phone or with your legs crossed watching the game, I promise, your couch at home is a lot more comfortable that the seats at RBA.
