I'm sure that this is the first year that the Athletic Department has charged a $50 fee for the privilege of ordering season basketball tickets. Can you imagine if they rolled that out during the last couple of years of the Muller era?

Personally, I have no problem paying the fee, and I'm in favor of Redbird Athletics raising money wherever they can. If 1.000 season ticket holders each pay the $50, that would raise nearly $25,000.

Who’s skimming the other $25k?

When I first moved to San Diego, I checked into season tickets for San Diego State and to get tickets in their lower bowl, there was a minimum annual donation of $10,000 - $25,000 to buy up to 2 season tickets. Then, you had to pay face value for each ticket after that and they ranged from $65 - $150 per ticket per game. This was for San Diego State, in the Mountain West Conference.

I actually did very well in basic algebra during my seven years in high school. [NOTE: for those who need to check the batteries in their sarcasm meters, I was not actually in high school for seven years.]

12 years?
Charles DeMar went to Greendale HS for at least seven and a half years. He was no dummy.

When I lived in San Diego in the 80’s I never attended a San Diego State basketball game, but I went to a few San Diego State football games and Jack Murphy Stadium had very small crowds. I only attended one Holiday Bowl game and that was the “86” game between San Diego State & Iowa, one of the best college football games I’ve attended (along with the heartbreaker in Frisco). That game was a sellout but not sure of how attendance was for the other Holiday Bowl games. I moved to Bloomington/Normal in “88”. A couple years later a guy named Marshall Faulk stepped on the Jack Murphy Stadium field wearing a San Diego State Aztec uniform and I’m guessing from that point on attendance and ticket sales may have taken off.
How did the Chargers moving to LA affect SDSU football attendance? With the opening of Snapdragon Stadium what are the donation levels going to be?

In my opinion, asking for additional dollars for the right to buy season tickets is about as smart as Unit 5 asking for a tax increase at a time when we have record inflation, record high gas prices, and we haven’t been to the NCAA tournament in 20+ years. People are not made of money. Yet, we are supposed to pay more for the product on the floor???? I may be the only one who feels this way but it’s time to see wins and NCAA tournament appearances before I commit additional dollars for the right to buy season tickets. I’ll simply buy single game tickets. Now just does not seem the time to ask for more. Our program is as low as it has ever been. Hoping Coach Pedon turns this all around.

Times change. I paid $7 for a concert ticket back in the late 70s. Bought a t shirt for $5 too (parking lot variety). If you got to the box office a coup!e of hours early the day they went on sale you could get in the first 10 rows at worst. Now its triple figures for the bigger bands at the back of the arena and a shirt will set you back $40. You have no chance at great seats unless you're willing to really shell it out, often to scalpers for ridiculous amounts. Even the tribute bands ask $20 or $30 for a ticket.

Let’s be honest here. ISU athletics are a bargain. Before I moved away I would marvel at how cheap my season tickets for both basketball and football were compared to the college landscape.

If I still lived in central Illinois, I would have no problem with the $50 fee.

ZZ Top is going to be here this summer and I thought about going (yes I am old). I looked up the prices and tickets were $150 and up. I like ZZ Top but not that much.

I agree with what you said…I just shelled out big bucks on StubHub for a concert. And ISU Athletics might be the bargain of all bargains. Still, asking to pay more when the product had been at its lowest for the last several years just seems like bad timing.

Yeah. Especially considering Dusty is gone. That's my reaction to lots of shows. A great option is lawn seats at Tinley Park, or your nearest friendly neighborhood outdoor venue. Or the fair.
