I had not heard about this until I read the Prarie State Pigskin article. Funny but I mentioned to my wife while watching one of the first games of the season that the helmet being worn by Annexstad looked different. Quite an advance in helmet design from the details included in the article. Safety for the players should always be a primary concern. I found the technology included in the helmet very interesting. They do look different but not that much different. I recall when the community went from the Ridell basic teardrop design suspension helmet people thought the new Speed Flex helmets looked weird. For those of you interested in such things here is the article.

Close to double the cost of the current Speed Flex model. Maybe some enterprising member of the athletic department should start a fund to help defray the cost to outfit the Redbirds with an Axiom if it helps keep them safer. I would contribute to that fund as long as the cash went to enhance player safety.

For what it is worth, NFL/NFLPA rated it behind some of the speedflex models, and Vicis is still at the top. Vicis has a similar price issue though.

I still have my high school suspension helmet for the 70s. It was advanced because it has a U bar. It's amazing how it's changed. As long as Virginia Tech is rating Vicis Zero 2 as the top helmet that's what I would put on my kid. Maybe the Axiom will overtake it.
