Wow nice win for Northwestern State. Amazing how much better a team can look with a nice camera angle and the right color calibration on the camera.

The selection committee is so bias towards the power 5 that these awful, awful losses only matter if it’s a mid major.

Come March they don’t care if a Maine (who beat Boston college tonight) or NW state beat a power 5 but if it’s against a bubble mid major team it’s a death sentence.

General sense is that Pedon put priority on building his roster out for 1 year and scheduling was an after thought. I'm guessing NW State wanted to do a H/H but Pedon maybe didn't want that to expand to next season, because he'll want to take more of a look at the best way to schedule. He talks a lot about being "intentional" about everything he does. Maybe he wants to see how his team can adjust/adapt with controlled variables. Same team, same 'scheme', 5 days a part.

Though it's not the same, back in the 17-18 season, ISU met Tulsa at their MTE in Myrtle Beach and hosted Tulsa 2 weeks later.
I asked about this last night on the Coach's Show.

"I've only been a part of a program that's done that one other time in my 21 years of coaching. It was at Miami OH and low and behold, the team we scheduled a home & home with in the same season was Northwestern State. (laughing) I'm drawn to home and homes with Northwestern State. Here's the long and short of it. We get the job in March, we're assembling a staff, assembling the team, and goes into April and into the early stages of May and we're still assembling our team and we needed and wanted another home game. I could've probably wait through July or August but then you are kind of pressing your luck and you don't know who you're going to get. I could've found anybody to say, 'hey do you want a home and home?' and they say 'yeah, but we've gotta start at my place.' and I could've found any amount of those. I could not find people willing to come to us at that point for a home and home. Again, I could've waited it out, maybe I get University of Pacific to come here, well then you have to go out to Pacific the following year, or UTEP or something like that. What I said is hey, we've got two games here, they needed a home game, we needed a home game. It's very unique. He's a first year head coach as well. We are here. I was ready at that point for our schedule to get some closure. The truth of it too is we were still in the midst of assembling our roster so it's a hell of a thing when you are building a roster to know what your team is going to look like and then you're trying to put your schedule together for next year. There's a lot of thoughts that go through your mind as your doing that, so I said that this is an opportunity for us to have a unique road trip. To go somewhere we've never been and probably never go (again), and play a team out of the area, while we get there coming out to our place as well."

So to summarize, he prioritized building a roster but was also scheduling at the same time. It was tough to schedule without know exactly what the team was going to look like. Both teams needed a home game and here we are. I don't anticipate another trip down to NW State in the near future.

Glad you asked the question and glad you were able to grab the whole text. His explanation made sense

Agreed that it is nice to get 2 early road wins, regardless of who they are against. A large percentage of the rotation comes from power 5 programs and used to playing in much more rowdy stadiums on the road than they will find at the mid major level, so maybe it’s a sign that there really isn’t much of a disadvantage for this team going on the road. Still coping with the WIU home loss, but I will get over it!

Not sure that is necessarily being biased or the fact that for every bad loss, a power 5 bubble team has 4 really good wins. If you are a mid major with no real quality wins, you are not going to offset those bad losses. A P5 bubble team is usually .500 or better in conference play. For example, 9-10 ACC wins. Any one of those 9-10 ACC wins would be considered a resume builder for a mid major team.

If ISU beats LSU Monday, that is going to be their signature win, no questions asked… LSU isn’t going to finish in the top half of the SEC this year.

I don't necessarily think there's a 4 to 1 quality win to bad loss ratio for bubble power conference team, but I get your point. That discrepancy just shows the inevitably larger number of quality win opportunities power conferences offer, not necessarily the quality of the team. It's a nearly impossible task to fairly compare middling power conf teams to the top mid-majors since there are so few head to head match ups for obvious reasons. Maybe if the committee starts giving more nods to the top mid-majors instead of the so-so power conference teams there might be incentive for the power teams to re-evaluate their scheduling.
